I'm looking at a 1st gen TSI AWD that I might buy. The guy selling it has built a bunch of 4g63's. He does great work. The engine has 3 grand on it, the body has about 170k. The engine has been built to handle around 500hp if I choose to tune it that high. I'll probably aim for around 350-400, but thats not what this thread is about. The problem with the car is that there is some body rust. He sent me these pics, and I was wondering if you guys think this is too much rust. I can't really afford to spend a ton on body work, so help and suggestions are appreciated. Thanks

The pics are the passenger side rocker and the driver side quarter.

Its a good amount, i would buy it as a track car or a beater since the body rust took it this far, but make sure to check out the title and the motor to make sure it has 3k in it, how much you buying for?

probably about $3000 because of the freshly built motor

I would stay far far away from this car. Rust is somthing that you do not want to deal with. There are too many 1st gens turbo with alot less rust or no rust. If the rocker panel looks like that I can only imagine how bad the subframe and rest of the underneath looks. I've sold clean rust free cars for alot less than that with great compression motors.

X2 i agree on this unlees it has alot of mods i would say that 3k needs to come down to no more than 2300

ok thanks guys I wanted to stay away from rusted out cars on my next purchase, as far as mods it has 550 denso injectors, walbro 255 fuel pump, air fuel ratio gauge, super air flow converter, boost gauge, huge front mount intercooler, bumper cut out, 2.5" hard intercooler tubing, 3" megan racing down pipe, 3" tsudo cat back, big 16G turbo, intake, and DSM link... owner claims its enough for high 400's to the wheels, but I'm not interested any more due to the rust

I would agree with you guys. Dont buy it. Unless you can get him down to $2000 use it as a parts car to put the performance parts on a 1g with alot less rust. A parts car is always a good thing to have and you can make a lot of money parting it out to fellow dsmers. That is the route I would go.

I don't know a whole lot about the mechanics but I know enough about rust and that's quite a bit and I wouldn't offer any more than a $1000. I know guys around here looking to sell their dsms in very good shape for 2-3G's just check out www.craigslist.com (or .org) and type in your city. You'll see
