Alright, after 3 hours of ripping apart and putting back together my dash, I'm stumped. I don't know what is wrong but I can't get these damn things to light up. I spliced into the green wire with a white stripe on the steering column(I know this is for parking lights, they flicked on and off if the wire cutters touched metal while touching the bare wire), and for the ground I used the metal thing with 2 bolts on it under the little pop-off cover to the left of the steering column where it looks like there was stuff grounded before. Does this sound right? Does anyone positively know a spot I can ground to, and maybe even a wire I can splice into that is a constant 12v I can hook the + wire to(I don't mind the gauges being on all the time, I just want the damn things to work)?

Thanks in advance for dealing with my electrically-inefficient ass,
Spidey

(btw, I don't have a voltmeter or multimeter, otherwise this would never have been posted most likely)

I'm having the same problem today. I spliced the wire into the yellow/purple one on the dimmer switch. When the dimmer switch is not connected, the indiglos light up fine. But when the dimmer is connected, the indiglos won't light. I'm stumped. I know nothing about electronics or wires...someone plz help me out.

I looked on VFAQ, but the indiglo install page isnt working :(

I have a '91 Laser RS and I just got the gauges for Christmas. I've installed them but I know very little about electronics as well. I have the same problem, where do you hook up the darn wires on the 1G DSM?

any suggestions/HELP are much appreciated, thanks.

Tap into the fog light switch for power and ground them to any of the metal screws behind the the gauge cluster. Not on the gauge cluster behind it.That's for the 1st Gen.

i grabbed power and ground off of the fog light switch. all you have to do is take a multimeter to figure out what wire is the illumination one. it works perfect, plus you only have to run the wires about 4 inches to the gauge cluster. good luck

omfg...I tried the foglight button: no worky. And i did a light test, so I did get the right wire.

So I said #### it and went to start the car....IT DIDN'T start! Dumb ass rice gauges. I'm giving up for tonite...I feel like kicking something...

here kitty kitty kitty...jk

I started this earlier today thinking it would takee 1-2 hours. Now i can't even go out tonite b/c my fuking car doesnt work. Uhhhg....soooo pissed.

i hooked up my indiglos yesterday. go to vfaq.com and follow the install on them.. I used my headlight switch, which i also used for my alarm, i grounded it to a bolt beside my stero. I highly suggest the purchase or atleast borrowing a volt/ohm meter.. it helps with this installs a lot. then u can find out which wire is hot when and why. if you need some help let me know

Well, I don't know if these things have a light sensor or what, but I was going out last night regardless of them working, started the car, turned on headlights, and flick - indiglos on. Pretty weird, but I'm glad they work and pics will be up tonight :D

I just installed my reverse indiglo gauges and they light up! They look great. Tapping into the fog light switch wires works. You don't need the stock fog light switch for it to work either. Thanks for the help.

I hooked my lights up in about 20 min.I found the parking light wire on the left side of the dash. It looks like a speaker should go there.I grounded it to the piece of metal that attaches to the center heat vent.Hope this helps someone. It is an easy install

I just tapped into the factory dimmer switch. Didn't have a tester, so I made a home made one with a screw driver and small 12V bulb. Disconnected the dimmer from the wiring, and tested those wires. Two of the wires will light or test positive, one is brighter than the other. I figured that the brighter one must be the wire powering all of the gauges, and the other was power for the dimmer switch light. SO I used the the brighter testing one. Works great! Gauges light when I turn on my lights.
