I'm thinking on protecting my new paint job. Without a car port would a nylon/etc. car cover be a good option?

Any upside? any downsides? Any ever used one?

Thanks in advance.

There are a few car cover manufacturers that make covers for our cars. Make sure you get an outdoor cover. They usuallyare not nylon. More likely a blend of breathable fabric that repels water yet breathes to let moisture out. Most cheap nylon covers will trap moisture under the cover, and depending on climate can do damage to your car.

Nice breathable covers with soft paint safe linings are avaiable at:

I only recomend them because I have bought from them before.

Hope that helps.

I was never a big fan of them, I have seen covers before trap something between it and the car and if the wind blows of something like that it will rub on the car...Its anal i know but its happened, some covers will also trap moisture, some don't breath at all...just do some reading on them and pay for what you get on them for the most part

I have the Covercraft Evolution 4 Car Cover for my 1g and it fits like a glove. I have no problems or issues with it. I also have the StormProof Car Cover for my 2g spyder and the same goes for that one as well. If you put the cover on the car when it is dirty or any water left behind after you wash it then you can run into some issues. The covers go on the car when they are clean, I have had no issues with them scratching the paint. I did a lot of research before I bought my covers and these seemed to be the best ones out there.

I too have a covercraft cover & second the fact that the fit is amazing. I forget which model I went with but it was their "middle of the line" model. My car is stored indoors in the winter so I didn't need the more expensive that are designed for the outdoor elements. It works great for me, does exactly what I need. It keeps the dust off & any water if I happen to end up under a leak. Basically the car comes out of storage the same way it went in 6 months earlier.

I had (and still have actually) a California Car Cover for my Spyder. The only issue I had was when it was really windy, the one line under the car wasn't enough to hold it in place. Other than that it was a great cover. And a thing about car ports. I would still use a cover if it's open to the elements.
