I was in Pep Boys the other day and they had a special on a plate mounted camera and a small LCD monitor for $99. It was tempting but the monitor was really tiny. Anyone using this kind of setup?

If you've ever driven a Spyder with the top up you would know why I'm asking. There are huge blind spots when backing up. I always go very slowly in reverse but things still have a way of jumping into my path... like that damned basketball hoop... and that stealthy trash can.

I have seen those, its a license plate frame, with a tiny camera built into it. Really flushed looking. I have no experience with it, but just curious to see the results. wret, you graced us with some original tech articles/reviews, you going to make the jump to reassure future buyers of this product? :)

I just may. I looked at this stuff a few years ago and the technology/miniturization/cost wan't at a level that I thought would be worthwhile. Now though with a whole low-end system is $100 and you can by a visor with a built in DVD player and monitor for about $150. I'm just curious if anyone has had good results with backup by TV, where monitors were placed, how big, how bright and even environmental issues.
