'98 Spyder GST (European member)

Hé everyone!

I'm reading and searching on this forum for a few months now. Now it's time to make a thread on my '98 Spyder GST project.

My name is Con (Dutch name ), I'm from the Netherlands.

Around May this year I bought myself a 98 Spyder that's in a pretty rouhged-up condition. A fellow dutch citizen, bought the car through ebay. When it arrived in the docks, the car wasn't exactly what he was hoping for. He didn't have the money to rebuild it, so I bought it for a bargain. Now I'm spending big money on rebuilding it.

Almost every part of the car needs to be replaced. It had 95 bumpers on it with the 98 frontlights . The turbo, downpipe and exhaust system were wasted. The entire interior is damaged. Almost every plastic panel has cracks, some were even missing.

So I made some plans en ordered some stuff!!!

Body:
Veilside Bodykit (the orininal one)
19" RAYS wheels G-Games type 99B
a respray in Amethyst pearl

Engine:
16G EVOIII Turbo
DC Sports cat back system
Clutchmaster clutch
Walbro 255 lph fuel pump
APEXI AFC Neo
HKS Turbo-Timer Type-1
HKS SSQ Blow-off valve
New Valve cover
SBR FMIC
Injen Air intake
Gaskets and a lot of small articles

Interior:
The whole interior is being redone right now, two-tone leather!

A lot of parts are not available in Europe, so it is hard to find parts.

In Europe the Spyders are even rare in their original state. I want to build an one-off. So the Veilside kit was obvious, it has never been delivered in Europe. The only bodykits you see here are blitz rip-offs, or other imitation crapp.

Looks to have been rough in the beginning, but not the worst one I've seen.

Much props on the new interior, good color combination..........was the "logo" embroidered or is it paint/whatever in the headrest?

You've definitely taken the car a long way, keep us updated.

I think the engine was swapped for a turbo version. Dutch customs says the VIN number says its an 2.4 LTR.

Anyway, we can not tell for sure. On the trunk is the GST logo. The rear axle has brakediscs.

Are there more ways to tell it's a GST???

i love the rims and the interior. but i definitely think, that the OEM bodylines (97+) look way better than the veilside kit.

So, let's blow some dust of this thread.

The project is going on for more than a year now. Biggest problem is getting all the parts to Holland.

When i finally collected everything I needed, my painter went bankrupt ! It took me a few days to get my car back because all the goods that were in the bodyshop got impounded.

After I found a new painter, the work could continue. However it delayed the project for several months.

I could go on writing about every little problem we had to solve. Some pics however say more.

There is one problem I would like to solve. I'll post my question in the Newbie Section.

WOW!!! that car is amazing, the color scheme was an excellent choice and interior looks amazing. you get mad props from me for the time and effort put into that car.

I like the body kit. (I don't get to say that very often.) Similar to the factory look, just exaggerated.

That wing should of been a factory option...it doesnt look bad at all IMO.

Nice job, a few of my opinions and a couple things to think about if you ever want change.
I would do the pink graphics the same color as the wheels. I'd also remove the boomerang thing in the middle of the graphic.
I would change the soft top from tan to black.
I would change the orange part of the interior to the same color as the wheels, and the tan part of the interior to black.
Also if the clutch ever goes on you get an act 2600, and I'd swap out the safc and get dsmlink instead, makes things much easier and better.
I'd also try and get the front and rear wheel well covers.
Any shots of the engine?

That's the Veilside body kit, right? Only kit I ever really liked on a DSM.

The purple/pink is DEFINITELY not for me, but the kit doesn't look bad. Still prefer OEM, but looks like a clean install, props for that. I just can't see how a guy could drive that around (color scheme)

Pink/Purple or not... I would drive that thing in a heartbeat with the top down! Its a girl eye catcher! My favorite type of car! hehe... why I love owning Eclipse's... Girls love them...You should have seen the situation the other day, girl found out I drove a clipse and for the rest of the night, she ignored her boyfriend and hung out with me (I didn't know she had a boyfriend until later on)... its fantastic! hehe.

Nice car man! I would have gone wingless tho...
