well..i got a white 98 gst with grey/black interior. the door panals are black but with this ugly grey cloth. i want to paint that, is it possible? i was also wondering if i could find a way to paint my grey seats and not have it come off on my cloths if i sit on it? thanx

Dude honestly for your seats just get then recovered with vynal inserts. I am waiting for mine. I sent the car in on thurs, they took the passenger seat out and back. They in putting black inserts on tan seats in the centers and on the back seat i am getting black on the top part of the backseat. And on the bottom part tan w/ black inserts. In the center of the back a huge Mitsu sign. But if you wanna paint, go to your local interior shop get the DYE. Its a spray paint Dye. you spray it and let it dry. it dyes the fabric, leather anything and wont come off on anything. I did my entire VW

Why don't you get some black lightweight racing seats? Then you'd be improving the car's performance (slightly) as well as improving the appearance of the interior.

those are expensive he wants to spend nothing,

your best bet dude would to get some seats from trader or something like that, i dont think painting cloth seats would go to great no matter what, youd have to let them dry for like 10 days anyway.....

if it takes 10 days to dry..its all good cause im driving my winter car..my 4runner. so i got time..haha..and on trader...how much do two black seats run? and are they leather or do they have them in cloth? im not made of money..most of us are not...haha

I was thinking the same thing!

DON'T PAINT YOUR SEATS!!! I put racing seats in my front with a sparco 3 point. The back was useless, plus I'm taking it out to fiberglass a system back there. Nobody could fit back there, so I painted my back seats. It looked really good, except they got really hard. I used dye too, not paint. So unless you want a stiff front seat to sit in, go for it.

Id recommend taking them to a professional custom interior shop. Have them re-dye them or re-cover them how you want. Same with your door inserts.

BTW gotEclipseD...your car makes me cream. Keep it clean :thumb:

hey I did my seats and they looked great! just like sparcos but without the logos...but after about 2 months they started fading so now you can see some of the tan but everyone still thinks they look nice.. I will have pics soon.

Has anyone put seats from other cars in your car? Because i saw some seats off a probe at the junk yard that are bad ass. You would have to take the sliders off your stock seats and put them on the other seats but if it worked it would be cool.

I have the same gray cloth back seats. All that I did was went to track auto and bout 3 cans of this 5 dollar black interior paint. Then Just taped off part of the seats and applied about 4 coats of the interior paint.
I also painted the rear decklid black instead of that grey that it used to be.

have you guys seen/sat in the seats of the new celicas.. they are sweet.. i know cause i use to own one.. :) if the gts seats could bolt on it would be awesome.. or the gt seats with the slight trim of color to match the car (but only in red or blue)

RST.. that doesnt look too bad.. how long did the whole process take you? and does it leave a funky smell in ur interior from the paint? or does everything look natural.. and would the material feel the same?

james.. just look on the trader for all black 99 interior.. thats wat i would do if anything on the interior.. but not until my car is actually fast.. :)

and yes his car is clean.. wish i could say the same about the engine bay.. man get that steam cleaned or something james.. ;)

The back seats do feel different, but nobody sits in them. So it doesn't bother me.

There was a funny smell for about 2-3 days after they were painted. That smell is gone now.

The whole process took about 6 hours. The time is from when I took the seats out till they were reinstalled. The paint dries very fast. They were dry after about 30 minutes. After I did the last coat I let it sit for about 3 1/2 hours. Then put them back in.

As for how natural the seats look. If some doesn't know anything about DSM's they would never know the seats didn't come like that.
