Alright, so i'm starting to save up for a car loan at this point and i've been doing research on a few cars and at this point im thinking about going for either a new gsx/talon tsi,or a 300zx. Right now im riding a 95 gs 5 speed. It was a nice step up and not a bad second car. But ive gotten used to it and it doesnt thrill me any more so it's time to step it up. I wouldn't think twice about the z and get the gsx if it wasnt for one thing. I want to be able to drift and do donuts but i don't want to be an asshole to my awd transmission. Basically i just want to know if a gsx transmission can hold up to donuts or drifting if it is on wet or gravely tar or a dirt road. i know damn well i wont be kicking it out on dry tar. ouch! anyways any input is aprietiated. peace

If you don't give the GSX drivtrain alot of shock it will hold up better, but still if you are tring to go doughnuts and drift all the time you are going otkill it. If you just want to drift buy a 240sx and swap an SR20DET into it. That would be the best/most fun solution. An AWD car isnt the best for drifting unless you are making ALOT of power. Out of your 2 options the 300zx would be the better choice.

buy the 300zx. we don't want another person destroying the remaining awd dsms.

i know,, i don't want to #### up my transmission either, thats why i was asking. I would love to be able to drift, i would also love to have a gsx at some point,, but im not going to bother if it wont be able to take it, thats just why i was asking, no need to get yourselves all worked up. and as for posting this in the appearence,,, srry,, i forgot i was in apearence, i thought i was in the general newbies section,, but i think im gonna go w/ a 240 or 300z,, unless it is possible to make the awd tranny into a straight rwd??? is that possible? anyways,, thanks for the input,,peace

Yeah its possible just not really worth it if all you want to do is drift occasionaly. Get a 240. Or even better, a hachi roku!!!! :D

BE VERY CAREFUL IF YOUR BUYING A 240SX!! My buddy bought an 89 240sx, the car was lowered and he couldn't check out the chasis. Be sure to check out the frame rails becasue those cars are notorious for having rotted frame rails. Its probably common knowledge to check out the underside of the car, I just thought I'd reiterate that point. All in all, the 240sx is a solid car, but definitely swap out the stock KA. Good luck man.

How do you think a 300 would fare on this kind of driving, i would rather have that than a 240 cause of the v6: ), but how do they handle? Or does anybody have an estimate on what the turbo jdm swap for the 240 would cost w/ shop labor and everything? Thanks for the help.

300zx's make really abd drift cars... to big and heavy.
go for a 240sx, an older corolla (AE86)... FC RX7...

You're going to buy a car based on opinions from people on an internet forum you never even met in person? Goodluck with that. Next, Ask what you should name your first born, And what you should do with your life.

the 240 (s13, s14, s15) is ONE of the most popular drift cars in japan. Ive been living in japan for about 18months and ive never seen a 300 drifting(not saying there isnt someone out there doin it). Your best bet would bet the 240 with the det. but dont forget its just not swaping a motor and drifting, there is alot more work with the suspension that needs to be done in order to be able to drift easier and proper... just y .02 cents

"Understeering is not drifting"

the impression i get is that he doesn't want to mod the car to go drifting, he just wants to beat on the car and put the wheels into a spin all the time.

Get a 240sx or ae86if you wanna drift ...(BEST DRIFT CAR EVER). I have a 240sx w/sr20det and s13 front end. Sexy and fast.

Who ever comes here just to put down other people is probably a F$#ing loser in life and using the internets anonimity to feel big about themselves. And no I'm not just buying a car based on these inputs alone, I'm planning to buy this summer and I'm doing all of my research now. And Project, everything you've said is based on two paragraph long posts, you've never met me, don't know how i drive, each time i go out i try to improve my myself and i don't want to beat on my car, thats the exact reason im asking these questions. Alright now that i got that off my back i would just like to thank everyone else who actually tryed to put down some helffull input, Thanks fellas!

Actually I was not trying to put you down. EVERYONE has a different opinion about what car THEY would purchase. So, Now you have 20 people telling you a different car to buy, And you still do not know yourself what car you would like to buy with your money. I guess you took it the wrong way, But then again... Everyone seems to take stuff the wrong way on this forum anymore.

You could get a 240 and swap an SR20 or boost the stock motor. The stock motor is pretty strong (has iron head and block) You don't need to go the SR20 swap-way if you want something boosted, quick and drift-easy! The SR20 swap is A LOT of work and fairly expensive (my friend and I are doing one right now) But they are a great bang-for the buck.

On the other hand, i went from 98 GS to 97 GSX and i've never been happier! (prob becuz i like the look of the 2G's more than any of the 240's...as well as i don't have a craving for drift, just AWD handling!)

For diffting you need a light car that is well balance, and drifting is kinda dumb. Get the awd talon/eclipse and learn how to drive and take it autocrossing or something were you accutally have to drive and not just doing fancy donuts.
