Welp, after having a leaky VCG, my heat shield was covered with ugly oil. To get it off, I soaked it in soapy water with a little bit of turpentine <sp> and other household chemicals to get as much grime off as i could. Then, I put a wire wheel on a dye grinder to shine it up some. The grinding took about 15 minutes tops. My next step is to put some polishing compound on it...Tell me what you think...Keep in mind that before it was ugly and brown from oil.

Later.

P.S. Awesome dipstick :)

Adam sandpaper is generally used to take it down going up in grit to get the imperfections gone. Then a polishing compound is used on a buffing wheel. You are about 1/3 the way there if you like we can get together sometime and I can finish mine too.

all of you guy's stuff looks real nice... :thumb:I'm kinda broke right now so looks like I'm going to have to do some free stuff to make my car look better... (polishing, painting, etc...)

I've seen a few of these in the gallery and I was wondering where I could get one. My heat shield is beat to hell and I'd like to spruce up the engine bay with a polished one. Thanks.

Not polished BUT
1,200 degree aluminum colored paint is 4.99 and works WONDERS :shhh:.

mine came out the same color as powdercoated "chrome" dejontool piping.
Takes 5 minutes too,,,, just an idea........

corrected.

There was a post with directions on how to do this, so I decided that it would be a good cheap mod. Wow it turned out great, not mirror, but for the time it took, well see for yourself....
