I'm curious where you got your information cus I work for Peak Nissan and the Maxima's and the 350Z's both come standard with High Intensity Discharge lights. They're an option for the Murano as well as Altima.
Or are you talking about HID kits.

to answer your question, No, those look like ass. And yes, HID KITS (something that did not come from the OEM), are not optimized to work with the lens and refractor cuts. get those POS's out of there.

Retrofitting a normal headlight housing with only the bulb looks like shit, and the bulb fits like shit. I put a HID kit in my friends prelude and there was no cutoff, the light went everywear. When I would see him driving past me it was blinding, so bad you had to look away. The bulb itself didnt fit very well in the housing and the ballasts came with some crappy double sided stuff to mount it that wore out in a week. After the kit was installed his lights all around the car were going out and blowing fuses and just not working after a couple of weeks. If your gonna do HID you have to put the actual projector itself from a set of headlights that had HID from the factory to get that good cutoff and so it doesnt look like shit.

Get a retrofit done. Much better appearance. I'll post a thread tommorow of mine. I just got one headlight completed now I need the other. Then I wire em up and finally have my dream look going on.

Are retrofits legal? If I wanted H.I.D that bad, i'd buy a set of OEMs, like off of a S2000 or something, that matched the 2g as MUCH as possible, then fill in or carve out the bumper to make it fit. Atleast then you have a GOOD set of H.I.Ds, that are legal.

There's no need to carve out the bumper. You buy projector headlights because DSM's use halogen housing. Too much reflection. So the ebay headlights are whatever you decide to get have the lens to projects and the housing to be compatible. Depending on which projector you get there might or might not be some modding done to the housing to make it fit. I'd suggest the E46 Bosch projectors. The smallest ones made and fit like a dream. They're from a BMW 3 series btw. Like I said before, I'll post a thread tonight of my retrofit.

So you buy a pair of the 100 dollar head lights off ebay? Then put in H.I.D. bulbs?

Yes, you can buy the ebay headlights. But what you can't do is just throw in HID bulbs. The projector that comes stock isn't made for this. I'm not sure if it'll even fit, but then again don't do it. If you're gonna go HID do it right. Buy the OEM projectors, d2s bulbs, ballast, and ignitors. They sell the whole kit on ebay. If you dont' have the cash right now the projectors that come with the ebay lights are pretty decent. They have a nice little blue cutoff.

HID bulbs in any housing that isn't designed for it will look like crap and blind people.

The best way to do it is as follows:

Buy projector housings
Retrofit HID projectors
install OEM HID equipment

That's it... there are a few how to's and a tech article on forums to check out too.

As far as legality, check your state ordinances. There is no United States of America blanket law that applies to ALL HID installations in all states.

The real "danger" in HID's is when someone puts an 8K bulb into a normal light housing designed for lower wattage halogen bulbs, when they lack the cutoff filter, or when they are aimed improperly.

However, modifying a housing to include the ENTIRE projector assembly from an HID equipped car and aiming them properly is not dangerous. Its actually safer considering the light output and the added saftey of being able to see obstacles at night. OEM HID projectors include a cutoff filter that shields oncoming drivers from the glare that is associated with "EVIL HIDS" that lawmakers are pushing to make completely illegal.
Do it properly.

Get Catz Bulbs
That's what I currently have installed on my car. It's a catz 4300K kit. The kit will only be on there temporarly, since I'm working a retrofit right now. Here is what you get with the plug 'n play kit.

Well first off all HID's should ONLY be installed in a projector housing to give an benefits otherwise they have tremendous glare and suck. Also 12000K is worthless and is for rice burners looking to look like a BMW or Audi, plus they will be less bright and produce blue light which has less lumens than a stock headlight almost. Also almost all audi, bmw, s2000, evo's, use a 4300K D2S bulb, the cool colors they produce come from the prism effect the projector has on the bulb when the car hit bumps. Just thought I share what I have learned about them.

P.S. I have driven in a car with 12000k and it is annoying when everything looks blue, does look cool parked though, thats about it.

They look nice. But i wouldn't pay a ticket for them.
Yes the kits are illegal, but IIRC they don't enforce it, meaning they don't pull you over for it.

I bought an HID kit off of ebay for $125. They work great and look really good. It is a small price to pay for being able to see at night and looking cool. I could go on and on about these things. They are awesome!

Projector head lights: ~$150
HID setup: ~$300-500
Installation: Priceless :sneaky:

Retrofitted Tsx projectors onto $110 ebay projector headlights. Trust me, once done right its really nice.

By the way the low beams are oem phillips 4300k bulbs, They are much closer to white/yellow in person
