Okay, I just got my Proform shift light. It comes with the shift light and three wires coming off of it; one is red, one is green and one is black. The directions say to attach the red wire to a 12V ignition switch and they show a picture of where you put in your key and turn it on (the ignition), I need to know how to access that wire and what color it is. The black wire is supposed to be attached to a good engine ground, I got that covered; I'm just going to use the negative side of my 12V battery. The green wire is supposed to be attached to the tach wire. Now I know that the wire is a solid white wire coming from the ECU, but as I have never located the ECU, I have no idea what wire that would be. I also need help on locating that white wire and how to tap the wire into it. Same thing for the red-ignition wire tap. Thanks for the help, newbie trying to do his own install. Need as much info. as you can give me since I'm flyin' solo on this one.

Alright peole, help me out a little bit here. I am clueless and have been looking around my engine compartment and the floorboard of the driver side and there is a mass of wires that run in many directions. And I can't find any VFaq on it anywhere for a 1G. Cause I'm going to need a good description or pictures to help me out. Thanks.

Ok, my car is half taken apart, I'm looking for some help. Thanks, Jake

Ok, I have the bottom part of the driver side dash off and all the plastic around the steering column off as well. I am mainly looking for a switched positive 12V wire, I was thinking the iginition wire. I am also looking for the white rpm feed wire. There are soo many wires running around that I am clueless as to which one is the right one. The ECU pinout isn't helping me for some reason. I don't know. Also, when I do find the wires, how do I connect the wires from the shift light? Thanks for the help, I'm tryin.

Ok, so I will use the cig lighter. Now about the wires. Can I just cut the rpm feed wire in like "the middle" and then strip the ends off of both sides and attach my shift light line and then attach the three all together and cover them with some electrical tape? Thanks

I have come to the conclusion that I cannot do this alone and everything I am finding online is not helping me out much, as I am not very skilled in things this nature, so I have decided I have two options:

1. If anyone in the Everett/Edmonds/Lynnwood/Seattle area would like to meet up with me on Saturday and help me do my shift light and boost gauge/gauge pod install that would be great. Preferably someone with experience doing this on a 1G, as I am of no help.

2. Take it to a shop in the area and have them install them all for me for a cost. If anybody has reccomendations of good shops that would do this for me for a decent price and has good quality work.

Thanks for the help. Jake

If you don't want money, I have a double-din 1G stock stereo I can give up. I just really need to find a way or a place that can help me get my stuff in, it's just sitting on my floor. Thanks.

yeah you can if you want, or use solderless connectors, (alot safter)

You can find the tach wire behind the cluster if you take it out.
It is a white wire on the left hand side connector. This is the wire where I have my shift light hooked up to.
And you don't want to use a solderless connector, they are junk.

Okay, so how do I remove the cluster? Is it just the two screws on the inside on the dash on the top and the two on the bottom? Would that just pull out the whole dash? I'm soo confused on how to connect the wires, I need some help on that. Ok, so if I get that wire connected, I still need a 12V ignition switch. How can I find this wire? What wires are 12V ignition switch wires and which is the easiet and best one to use? Thanks for the help, my car has been out of commission for three days now, I really need to finish this up.

No that will remove the bezel around the cluster, then there a 4 more screws that hold the cluster in. If you already have the bottom of your dash off and are looking for an ignition wire, the switched ignition wire is black w/white stipe. The best way to test this wire is with a digital mutlimeter if you have one, or you could use a test light(but I would never reccomend one of those). The best way to connect to these wires is solder.
