Infinity Head Unit questions

My car is a 96 and the infinity radio i think is going down the drain. It almost never plays burned cd's and it sometimes won't play cd's that I have purchased even if they're brand new.

What I was wondering is if I got a newer radio like say from a 99 eclipse would I have better luck with burned cd's or does the same crap happen to those units.

Also would a 3000gt VR4 radio work? or a 00-05 eclipse radio work? , or an 06 eclipse radio? or hell would a chrysler sebring or dodge anything else work ?

let me know, I'm not looking to purchase a sound system. I love my infinty speakers its all I need. I'm more of a performance guy but i need my tunes.

Ive got an Infinity from a 99 and a 98 and I have to say they are both junk. Ive swapped both out and in to check if they would play my burned CD's and they both error'd out randomly. Ive found it helpful when you put in a cd that wont read, stick it in the unit, then skip a few songs in to the cd and usually it will play fine after that. When I get enough money Im going to get a decent head unit. I really like the stock look but honestly I think they are junk.

mine is the infinity and it works great! Burned Cds and Scratched.

why not just put a aftermarket radio in. maybe even a mp3 player going from one stock radio to another is crazy imo. you can spend no more then 200 and even half of that and get everything you need. and it looks better too.

to answer your question a radio is a radio in most cases. figure out how the wires go (if the harness don't match) and get to splicing. some stock radios in newer cars will not work after they are removed.

any eclipse or talon radio from 95 to 99 will work if its infinity, look for a round plug on the back ( goes to amp under passenger seat ).
the 00 to 05, and the 3000gt will fit and the main harness will plug in but I don't think the round plug for the amp is the same. none of the Chrysler or dodge radios will fit or plug in. none of the factory radios are very good for burned disc's. buy an aftermarket radio and bypass the factory amp (will not work with an aftermarket radio). Most new radios have more power than the factory amp anyway. Your infinity speakers will work just fine.

Cut your losses, go to a modern radio that'll play MP3s and has an input for an iPod or whatever. You can get very nice ones (Dual) for a hundred bucks.

well i already have an aftermarket head unit, i just love the sound that the stock one gives. THe aftermarket one i have is a sony, but it was free... my g/f paid like 300 bucks for it but i can't figure out how in the hell i could hook it up to my speakers... and i know i'd have to bypass the amp ....

Tsunami makes an adapter so you can use your factory amp, i didnt know it untill a customer at our shop ordered it.

well i wasn't sure if that would work because i have been told that an aftermarket head unit would burn up our amp, as in destroy it. but i figured dsmtuners would know more than best buy....

i'm gonna search for an install write up for an aftermarket head unit, if i don't come up with anything maybe someone could help me out

I actually had an external setup.

I used an Infinity H/U with a RF 200.4. I had to buy a DIN cable and a MITAH cable to make the whole thing work. The Infinity headunit wasn't playing CD's right so I picked up an EVO 8 cd player for 20 bucks brand new.
