Ok i just bought subs and amp. Going through the installation and get to the step where i need to hook up the remote wire for the amp. (forget the exact name but you know what i mean?) anyways basically i am ignorant and lazy so i decide to connect it to the ground wire of my head unit. get everything else hooked up and best i know how and go to try my new set up and nothing happens. so i start to fiddle in my usuall ignorant way and decide hey this little light that ligts up my cigarette lighter has to have power to it thinking that i could run the remote wire to that and have it work altlest when my lights are on so i touch them together and its kinda sparks and now my interior guage lights and console lights dont work now but head lights work fine? basically i was wondering how bad i f'ed up my electrical system and where should i put the REM thingy and also does anyone have anyidea why my amp is not working?
sorry for the massive run on sentence and bad spelling but i am VERY frustrated and just needed to vent

You just did so many things wrong, I'm not even sure what to tell you.

Number one thing you should do is un-hook everything you've done and check your fuses. You have blown whatever controls your gauge lights, I think its called "gauges" or something in the fuse box. But check them all anyways including the new amp.

The Remote wire is used to send 12V DC to the amp when the car is turned to the ACC or ON position. That will basically turn your amp on, the other power wire coming from the battery is used by the amp to produce the wattage for the sub.

An aftermarket head unit would have this extra wire coming from it. If you don't have one, I don't know what you can use instead.

thanks man yeah i checked the fuse under the steering wheel already and the ones on the amp seem to be fine. would the wire i want to splice into just be a dead end with maybe a little tag on it yes i have a after market head unit. also is there anychance i did serious damage to my electrical system or my new stereo

Your deck should have a blue remote wire coming from it, most that have a remote wire do have it in blue.

You blew the "room" fuse. It's under the hood, and is a 10A fuse. Trust me, i did the same thing about 100 other times, but it was a faulty audio-out on my cd player that kept blowing em whenever I gave it power.

Serious damage? Nah, not likely. Also, check the mini 10A on the back on the CD player to make sure it is still intact.

Make sure all your wires are secured and that there are NO copper parts poking out, dont want a speaker grounding out and shorting another fuse...

FYI : The remote wire is the blue one with the white stripe from the cd player wiring harness :thumb:

just a quick tip, if you don't have a remote wire (blue) coming from the back of the deck just hook it up to the radio or ACC fuse, this fuse only gets power when the ignition is in the on position.

thanks for all the helpfull info. i solved the lighting issue but now my amp will not work.i connected the remote witer to the blue wire tagged ATT on it but still nothing. it seems like the fuse for the power cable at the battery is fine and same with the ones on the amp. so now i am very concerned i blew my brand new amp. i followed all the trouble shooting directions except for checkin the connects at the amp with a volt meter becausei dont have one. anyways does anyone have and ideas or shouldi try and return it to the store?

check the fuse on the amp, the amp has a fuse near to where you plug the power wire to, if not just go buy a cheap $17 volt meter from walmart and check the connections using the amps ground, touch the negative probe to the ground on the amp and the positive to the thick power wire and you should get 12+ volts, then using the same ground turn the key to the on postion wait until the deck powers up and then check the remote wire for power (12+)

buy a new one. you dicked it.

It's theft to return it because you blew it up thru ignorance and get a new one.
