Toronto,
Hay guys, got my car about 2 month ago with some ugly looking aftermarket front bumper on my 97GSX. Since I love the look of the stock one with large FMIC I decided to buy one. I got the bumper cover but what my mechanic told me that I suppose to have some sort of bedded pipe right on top of the radiator about miter long to hold the bumper in place and to prevent it from haggling down with holes under the headlights. I do not have such a part. Is that something that I really need in order to install stock front number? Is there anything else I need to do it? What I have right now is basically that aftermarket bumper hodling on 6 screws at the top and nothing supporting t on the bottom so it just hangs there. I don’t want to have that with the new one. Any suggestions on what I need to do in order to install it properly? I am also putting 30” FMIC when installing the bumper.

PS: I don’t want to get anything from the dealer since u knows how much they charge for everything.

Take a pic of your car with the current bumper off. I think I know what you're talking about, but I don't really know how to describe it.

The part he is talking about is called the crash bumper, 5 mph bumper, bumper cover support, etc.. Whatever you wanna call it it is not necessary to install a stock bumper cover. You could run without it, or find one in a junkyard. You will have to hack it to run any sort of decent FMIC on your car. They are the same for all years and models 2G if you go junkyard hunting. Here is one online, I don't see this costing much from the dealer, it's just a piece of fiberglass. http://www.partstrain.com/products/Bumper_(Front)/1997~MITSUBISHI~ECLIPSE.html

He's either talking about that, or the 4-1 support bracket thingy. I'm not sure.

Both the upper fiberglass thing and the lower one....

There is no lower fiberglass piece. Here is a pic with the bumper cover off.

The upper bumper support is the only piece I know of and it bolts down with 2 bolts, as for the bumper it should be 5 bolts on top, and 2 on each side that go up into the fenders. A bodykit wont bolt underneath, only the stock one will and it will only bolt into the plastic cover that you see in the pic of the green car above. It provides little to no support, its only a splash guard.

Yeah, what he said.

There is nothing that your missing. Find a new mechanic.
