Is the Autometer phantom A/F gauge background supposed to light up?

i just installed my Autometer Phantom series Air/Fuel gauge, and the whole face doesn't light up with the lights when i turn them on. Is there any reason for this or is it not supposed to light up? The 12V power wire goes to the Cig lighter, the ground it just grounded to a bolt, and the signal wire goes to the o2 wire at the ECU.

yea its suppose to be like that..

the face doesnt light up.. only those leds that cycle from lean/rich

If the back lit up, it would ruin the light show that the gauge puts on.
