i am painting the pipes because i dont want to wait 2 weeks to powdercoat them, plus i need the car faster than then, and since the pipes are really out of eyes view, its not really a priority, but i just want them protected from rust, but if im gonna do it, i might as well do it right.

these pipes will be painted(this is a older pic of them, i used them on the car for a good few months, and now they have developed a wee bit o' rust.

these are the paints we will use to properly paint the pipes. We will start off by taking the pipe, and sanding it down with some 80-120 grit sanding pads. then wipe the shavings off with a rag.

we are using RustOleum Primer, RustOleum Red Base and some DupliColor metalcast, which in light coats will give it the powdercoated effect, without the powdercoated cost.

here we start off with the already prepped and sanded IC pipe.

heres another pipe that has already been primered. since i am using fast dry primer, i will do light coats at a time.

more shots of the primered goodness. most ricers would stop at this step for that mad tyte unfinished jaydeem look. #### that shit. we dont half ass things in this garage.

ahh everyone knows the Greddy Type-S Blow Off Valves trademark, its purple gayness. purple sucks ass, so well change that. i took apart the BOV and scuffed up the top section, then primered it, then blasted it red.

here it is just sitting in its spot just to match it with the Valve Cover, pretty dam close. im gonna shoot it with a little of the metalcast so it looks like it came powdercoated like that.

heres the engine bay with the BOV all put back together.

What intercooler is that and how much did you pay for it. I like the piping great job. is it the heat resistant paint I got lazy LOL and didn't read all of your descriptions. ROFL mad props looks good,i'd consider painting the crom ucip. :thumb:

its a 24x12x3 ebay FMIC.

and no i didnt use heat resistant paint, but i drove it hard earlier on the freeway for a good half hour and the paint was still hard as a rock, so i doubt itll flake or bubble.

if anything ill actually powdercoat the upper IC pipes since i can just use my stock UICP and bov for however long it takes for them to do it(itll suck driving with 11psi, but ill manage). since the pipes are already chrome, i would have to strip the chrome for the paint to stick. but most powdercoaters can sandblast the chrome right off. plus since its more in eyes view, id rather it be shinier and resiliant to oils and such. though i kinda like the chrome pipe and heat sheild with little red touches here and there. im afraid too much red might make it look gaudy.

wow those turned out good.. great job man..
:thumb: :dsm:
one more thing.. wen you removed the cap of the greddy type s.. after u put it back.. did it perform the same? i "heard" it wasnt recommended to take it out.. but if thers no problem.. might as wel go at it myself

it felt a wee bit tighter, though i just guessed on where i had it set, so i prolly need to loosen the screw a few threads. plus the Boss fitting for the vacuum line was only in a few threads and loose when i took it out, and here i was wondering why i was getting compressor surge on the freeway.

dam now im all worried, cause i searched and didnt see anything about taking bov's apart being bad. i heard theyre a pain in the ass to reassemble cause of the spring, but i didnt have any trouble.

wow.. i didnt know i replied to this so long ago.. now i reply because i am going to do this procedure.. powdercoating will take some time and more money..

now a question.. u didnt mention if you used that metalcast on the pipes.. do use that after the base color or before:? the pipes i have are polished.. will that matter in the prep process?

anyways great writeup.

this needs to be on the tech guides if it isnt already.. and pics archieved before the links get outdated and don't work.. like a lot of the linked images in the tech guides
