Dash Speakers Impandince (he probably meant "impedance"

OK the ohms are 4? I took out my front side speakers and they where 8 ohms. You are sure my dash ones are 4 ohm's, because i will be using putting 4 ohm kickers in the sides and rear.

Except none of the speakers fit :( the 5 1/4 mounting holes are not expanded enough to hook to the stock ones. And the 6x9 mounting depthis to large for the stock mount. So i will ether find a way or take them back for some other type. Anyone else have this problem??

crutchfield is ok for an outline, but terrible as a guide... if you need any examples just try to fit a 3.5inch alpine type s speaker into the dash of a 2g.

Yes, and thanks for picking up that bill for us. You were glorious! :thumb: Now remember, keep the payments coming in, or everyone sees the pictures:nono:

anyone tell me the ohms on a stock 1g eclipse dash speaker?

The impedance is 8 ohms all around. If you put 4 ohm speakers in there, you won't be able to turn them up because it overdrives the radio's amplifier, creating all kinds of bass distortion and making the speakers sound like they're going to pop.

How's that jibe with the big "12[ohm]" on the back of the tweeter out of my car, in the second link above? Is that not the impedeance?

Damned 'tricity.

Could just be a 1G vs 2G thang :sneaky:

Sorry for the disinformation. I'd replaced all my speakers long ago with 4ohm (more choices in automotive) along with an aftermarket amp which IMO is mandatory if replacing the OEM speakers with anything decent, as the sensitivity (dB/1w input) is generally much lower on quality aftermarket speakers.

BTW.. running 4ohm on an 8ohm channel doubles the resistance on the amp creating ~2x the power output. Stock head units are definitely light on power to begin with, so running low imp speakers would be similar to boosting your T-25 at 20psi ;)

OK sounds good on the 8 ohms in dash and side unit. I am replacing my sides with 4 ohm 5 1/4 kickers and rear with 4 ohm kicker 6x9's.

i am thinking I will run the amp from the RCA jack in the dash unit, then run wires to the kickers. I will run the 8 ohm dash stock's of my deck and leave the stock wires that ran to the old stock door speakers unused and secured.

can this make all your aftermarket speakers blow in the car if the impedance wrong... i had 2 sets of comps for the front and rear hooked up to a 4 channel amp (kx650.4) and it sounded so beautiful for a bit then all blow on me... i realized after the dash speakers were hooked up and working.... if having those dash speakers playing with the 2 sets of comps will that cuz all the speakers to blow on me?

thanks

this forum is so helpful i cant stop reading so many posts about my car :) ....

I assume by "comps" you mean component systems with a passive crossover
If you havent' already, ditch the factory wiring and instead uses some good quality Monster/Streetwires cableing from the Amplifier to each of the (4) component systems. I'd just get rid of the factory dash speakers, though if you feel you must still run them, feed them off the the head unit's amplifier :dsm:
