I got my car back from the body shop the other day and spent about 4-5 hours over the weekend washing it and waxing it so it looked like it did before I got rear-ended. Anyway I come out of school today to find that someone wiped there fingers down the hood of my car, they also thought it would be cool to put some obscene words on the spoiler. :notgood: So I washed it and waxed it hopeing that would take care of it... For the most part it did but there are still marks on the hood (they must have been pressing down really hard or somthing). Any ideas on how I can get rid of this with out having it get repainted (wich would really suck)

Thanks :dsm:

i would beat the ever living piss outa that guy... try mothers wax, it works pretty good

Ya I would agree, Mothers has a 3-step program thing that I use. It has an oxidation remover which also takes off old wax, which dulls the shine with too much on. Then it has a swirl mark remover, which would probably help you out. Then I would get the non-abrasive wax formula cause well it's non-abrasive and won't put swirls in. I always keep my car washed and waxed and the first time I used it I noticed a big difference in the shine. They also have a clay bar but I don't believe it would help ya but who knows may be worth a try if other stuff doesn't work.

Thanks guys, Ill give Mothers a try. I have read about people useing clay bars but I have no idea what they are or what they do. Do they take off all your old wax?

Thanks again :dsm:

I use claybar and I think if the Mother's kit doesn't work try it. Claybar will take off your wax so you'll need to wax the car again.

From my limited detailing experience (I just don't give a damn anymore because of all the dirt roads) a clay bar will remove anything that isn't paint.

Any dirt/crap embedded in the paint is removed. You will have to wax again, but the end result is worth it.

Pick up a bottle of 3M finish restorer and buff it out, it should work. Also, if you just had the car painted, I'd strip all the wax off that you just put on, since the paint still needs some time to out-gas as it cures. I usually won't put on wax after painting for at least 2 weeks.

If the other recommendations don't get rid of the marks you can try meguires scratchx. Its like a rubbing compound but not as harsh, ie it doesn't leave more scratches then it takes out. Ive used it a few times on some scratches that were pretty deep and it worked very well got rid of most of, if not all the marks.

Like has already been said you don't want to wash or wax a car right after its been painted, usually say to wait about a week to wash & atleast 2 weeks before you wax, I've heard of waiting a month before.

Thanks for the help. :)
I got my car back from the body shop the other day
By that I ment like 1 1/2-2 weeks before I washed and waxed it, (it rained for about two weeks so I waited to wash it). But thanks for letting me know about waiting a few weeks before washing it after getting it painted, I had no idea (looks like the rain actually helped me out for once).

Thanks :dsm:

like all that was said above....but last resort try a rubbing compound and buffer it will remove some pretty deep scratchs/caloused(spelling but equal fingers from hard work LOL) finger prints.

i hate people who mess with my car!! People had the nerve to bend the license plates on mine! GRRRR!!! They're just jealous cuz we have sexy cars :thumb:

strip the wax that's on it, then clay bar it. If you can still see the marks, use a Polish, not a wax, and if you can, a porter cable/buffer. After the polish, you can finish with a wax, or put a sealant on, then a wax.

please keep in mind that the car must be absolutely CLEAN when using a claybar.. as claybar will pick up all dirt/specs/rocks/etc and you may end up rubbing the grime into yo ur paint.. so be careful and remember to fold the clay once in a while [ i do once per body panel ]. then meguire's 3 step [ i'd do 2 steps of step 1 and 2 becuase of what happend with your car ] and then finish it off with step 3 and then a top layer of mother's pure carnuba [sp?] :shhh: but that's just me, i'm a detail freak.
