If I put fender flares on my ride, what do I need to do to get the wheels flush with the fenders again for that wide look, besides changing rims?

well my suggestions would be to put on new rims, wider ones with a lower offset to take advantage of the fact that you now have more room to fit tire on your car. That is one of the biggest downfalls I see with dsm's is that you can barely fit a 245 tire on the cars now that you have fender flares I don't see why you can't run a 9" wide rims with some 255's or hell maybe even 265's. Now the cheaper way to do it would be to run wheel spacers to push the wheels farther away from the rotor and make up that space.

Post up pics of your car I would love to see what a dsm looks like with fender flares.

Spacers are the easiest and cheapest way to acheive a wider wheel base. But the have some drawbacks/limitations that need to be concidered.

By moving the entire wheel outward with spacers you will be subjecting your wheel bearings to higher loads that will cause them to wear faster and/or even fail after a short time.

Also, moving the entire wheel outward with spacers (or decreased offset) will increase the scrub radius of the front suspension which will cause increased "kickback" and/or steering effort at the steering wheel. The car will wander and pull more because of bumps and ruts in the road too (especially under braking and/or hard accelleration conditions).

Another issue when using spacers is tire clearance to body panels and wheel liners. This is an issue with just increasing your wheel width and/or decreasing the wheel offset also.

There is also a concern about wheel studs failing with spacers. You will have to increase your wheel stud length by the same amount as the thickness of the spacer if the spacer is the simple "flat" type of spacer. If the spacers are more than 10-15mm a different type of spacer is used which uses bolts to mount the spacer to your hub (requires removal of your wheel studs), and wheels studs that are integral to the spacer to mount your wheels. Either way applying and maintaining proper lugnut torque is very important.

Going with a wider wheel and a smaller offset would probably be the optimal method to use. But I would try to keep the offset change to under 10mm and the width increase to 1 inch. This will move the outside edge of your wheels outward 22.5mm (.88 inch).

Im doing the exact same thing ,but then again my fender flares are def wild, but please post some picks. ;)

I know this is an old thread, but do you or anyone know how the wheel moving outward 22.5mm is calculated?

EDIT: Duh! Nevermind I answered my own question. Wheel width increased 1 inch is 2.25cm or 22.5mm and 10mm offset plus 11.25mm on each side of the wheel will result in the tire coming out about 21.25mm :coy:

Wheel spacers would be the solution..but comon when you see a car with wheel spacers it looks rediclious. I would save a little money and buy a wider rim. This way you could fit on wider tires. Try like 255's. But yes for the cheap fix get wheel spacers.BUT WHEN YOU HAVE MORE WHEEL BASE UNLIKE US GO ALL OUT!!
