I want to replace the front bumper of my laser. It is bent up underneath and i would like to throw a new one on while i am doing a bunch of other body work. Should I throw a stock front bumper on? I like the looks of drift kits. They dont seem too ricey to me. I really want to stay a tuner. I learned my lesson with me park bench spolier.
I dont nesscarlly want a FULL body kit, maybe just drift side skirts and front and leave the back alone? Anybody done this? If this could work out good, what places/brand have some good choices for me?
Thanks alot guys

um.. seriously, y worry what other people think, if u want it get it, tuner... ricer... whatever... do what u wanna do and screw what other people think... it's ur car u paid for it... have fun with it

ahahaha... wow. just wow. get a spine and do what you want. a "tuner" alters a car performance by adding parts or changing settings on some kind of engine management, not worry if all the cool kids in his high school parking lot will like his bumper or not. do what you want, but IMO the drift front end is to big with stock everything else, if you want to be diffrent get a talon tsi front bumper. on a side note....what is this site coming to?

I'd get another O.E. bumper cover and spend the rest on paint. You car has a nice clean look stock and I have never seen a cover that improved on that. It's up to you though.

Get a factory OEM Front bumper. The body lines on the 1g's are meant to be stock. After market body kits look ridiculous on our cars.

hah! i knew people were gonna go with the "stay stock" BS. do what you want, but keep in mind in getting an aftermarket bumper it may hang lower than stock.. causing it to look like shit.

just do a little research before you commit to the buy on whether or not you'd like the look of just an aftermarket front end. some are stock height, some aren't.

Why is keeping a O.E. cover B/S? I have not seen a single example of a bumper cover for a DSM that doesn't look like it was designed by kids on pot.
A lot of people appreciate the Laser because of it's clean appearance.

it's BS because alot of tuners here say "stock is king".. even though that's MY personal preferance.. it may not be his. But you're right, i shouldn't be too frustrated as he did ask if he should stay OE or not. just IMO the full drift kit is VERY nice and doesn't take away from a 1g's clean effect.

i think the drift kit looks good , and non-ricey.

i had to remount my fog lights , so they would fit in the side openings , and i think it looks great. sure , the stock body is nice..... but i like this kit.

I think the drift kit for 1g's looks alright, but only under one condition; you have to do the entire kit. If you just do the front and sides, it would look awkward. If you just do the front, the front will look lower than the sides and back. If I was in your position, I would try and locate another 1g bumper off of a parts car/ or at a junkyard. You could get lucky and find a bumper that is the same color, isn't faded too much and would match your car's color.

I personally enjoy the drift kit... but if you were to get just the front or front and sides, it would not look right, b/c it would hang lower then the rest of the car. if you're going to get a body kit, get a whole kit, or piece one together, just as long as its all the same length. as for oem, its nice and clean, but how many people have them? alot. its factory, stock, etc. and you can still be a tuner with a body kit, i don't think that tuner specifically relates to power, its modifying whether it be motor, suspension, body, tuning is changing in my book. i'm not quite sure what you're looking for in that aspect of the word, i know some people may look at the word as speciafically performace oriented, but w/e. like everyone has already said, do what you like, what you want. browse the gallery see what you like, look around, put something together in your head and go for it. enjoy YOUR ride, and build it to your specs.

These posts are great...you always get these "leave it stock guys". Of course to them any body mod is rice. To me all there cars are boring but to each there own. Some of the fastest cars I've seen had body kits. There are even a couple guys who post on these forums who road race there 1g and they have aftermarket body pieces. Not all the body kits are ugly. Mine is the Risq front, I also really like the drift. Don't worry what others say, it's your car. Do what makes you happy.

Total Agreement! :thumb: :thumb:

I got a 92 Laser RS AWD a couple months ago, and while doing performance upgrades I wanted to make my car orignal. I loved the way the drift kit looked, really smooth, not all crazy like the Dragon Z or others. Well the main reason I bought the drift kit was cause the Laser Bumper on the 92 is the ugliest out of all of them and it wouldnt fit a big front mount without cutting the hell out of it, plus one of my mud flaps were broken and I couldn't find that part anyhere. I took this time to make my car unique, I found 92-94 eclipse taillights, and am going to use the Laser blockout plate for the middle. You know what man, do what makes you happy, I get so much shit talk from my friends but thats them, everytime we go to the body shop to see the status, they're all like well hey that actually looks nice! So the moral is #### what others say and do what you want. PLus you'll all remember my car now after you see it. Updates will be posted in my vehicle profile once it's done to show you guys what it looks like, there's not really many pics of the drift kit on a clean 1g. Some but not many.

Drive it like you stole it!

And you Chi-town guys, Word to your mother!

I found an aftermarket OEM front bumper on ebay. $125 shipped about. Fine for my budget. I am just going to add some mesh peices in front of my stock fog lights and spend some dough on nicer paint.
-Thanks guys

PS I am sensitive to the ricer look, i was flamed badly for my rear spoiler. I thought i would like it when i bought it but i came to eventually hate it.
PS2, Fast cars can get away will having god ugly body kits becasue when they smoke you you cant really say, "oh....that car sucks!"

be careful with kits off ebay. A friend of mine ordered z3 fenders and a body kit off ebay. The body shop that put it on had a terrible time getting it to fit bc it was cheaply made, so they had to like squeeze the bumper into place and the fenders and everything. And since it was such crappy fiberglass the fenders ended up cracking from the pressure, and it also bubbled up really bad from the heat or sun or whatever. I am a big fan of drift kits tho. I say go for it if thats what u want. But dont go cheap, get a good one from a reputable company. And if u cant afford to get a good one, just get an oem and dont waste ur money. Because in the long run if u get a cheap kit u'll end up with cracks and holes everywhere, which looks way worse than the oem. But good luck with it all man :thumb:
