The firewall piece that comes on the underside of the hood, is it needed? Obviously it isn't there for no reason, but could a lot of damage act as an affect of taking it off?

I would think it is only there to keep your hood from getting too hot. The only problem I can think of as a result of removing is it maybe affecting to paint?

It also protects the paint when the engine compartment gets really hot. If it's in good condition leave it on, if it's crap then take it off.

If you guys would like to know the real reason that they put that in there it is so that if your engine happens to catch on fire, it melts the plastic pushpins and drops the flame-retardant mat onto the engine to smother the fire. At least, that is what it is designed to do.

Ummmm yeah maybe on the turbo model that would make sense. But take a look at the NT hoods, the piece on those hoods are not flame retardant whatsoever.

It doesn't need to have a silver looking layer to be flame resistant.

Hold a lighter to it and watch it go up in flames very quickly. This comes from experience on a NT hood. Then you tell me it is flame retardant.

I am not gonna touch on this but this thread is not the place for personal transactions or problems. Please take it to PM's and emails.:)
