Hey guys, i just bought another eclipse ( my last one was totalled, thank-you woman drivers) anyways, it still has the mits. and gs-t stickers on them. However, they are clearcoated over. I was wondering if I could maybe strip the clearcoat off thats over them, take them off, then re-clearcoat those areas? It's a 1996 also, I dont know how bad paint fade would be, but it is white though.

If they are infact under the clear. It is possible for an experiences painter to sand over the stickers and repaint just the areas. The clear has to "feather" nicele though. which is basically sanding the clear completely off on the sticker and having a smooth transition to where you dont want clear to be removed. If it feathers nicely it is possible to "spot in" clear in that area. or may be able to get away with sanding off the clear. removing the labels. and then clearing the entier hatch. as long as you dont remove color. color wont need to be added.

I would say that just about any decent painter could feather in a little clear and fix that right up, especially since the decal is located on the lip of the hatch, the feathering over the lip on to the top of the trunk would be very unnoticeable. $.02 :D -jammmmm

so if you have just the sticker with no coating, is there any possible harm that could be done from taking it off? Ive been wanting to take mine off for a bit, but i didnt know how to//what should be done to properly do it. Maybe im over thinking it? Any help would be appreciated!

You have a couple of options for taking them off.

1) finger nail and time. then use some goo gone to get the adhesive of.

2) heat gun - heat it up first and it will come off easier. dont over heat or you can burn your finger, or worse yet your paint job

3) eraser wheel - its a wheel you can get at car quest that is similar to a pencil eraser. only harder. it screws into a p-grinder / die grinder. or a drill if need be. this is the quickest way but probably the most dangerous. hold it wide open and touch it to the sticker. dont burn the paint.

ok cool, i think i'll do the finger nail and time :D seems to be the safest. Thanks man!

I used a heat gun on my car and it took me no time at all to get them off. I tried the first one without the gun to see how much time it takes...piece of advice: use a hairdryer if you don't want to get a heat gun...it will make it much, much easier.

thanks guys, I'll start looking around for someone who does it, and the price. :thumb:

i just did this and WOW what a difference! decals came right off! Thanks for the tip :)

Be cautious when using a heat gun, if you leave it on too long you'll mess up your paint. Use a hair dryer, might be a little slower but it worked for me :)
