Just bought my 1G to use as a daily to keep miles off the EVO. Gonna build it back up, it had a bad block. Parts for the rebuild will be here next week so this weekend I started on the interior. Here is what I have so far.

Exterior is red with a black top. Interior is gonna be changed from factory grey to black with red and gunmetal silver accents. Did the glove box and center console cover as well. More pic as this develops.

Work is looking good. What material did you use for the red on the door? Did you make a new template, or just cover the old carpet ones, with new material. Also which paint did you use on the black console parts? Did you prep then in any way, or just paint them as is? I'd like to see more pics, keep up the good work.

The red is just a marine quality vinyl. Got it at Hancock Fabrics, comes in all colors. I used the factor template, just pulled the carpet off and added a 1/8th inch foam to the back. Heat the vinyl with a hair dryer to make it plyable. I'm working on a how to with pics.

The console parts are painted with a gunmetal color paint I found at advance auto. I'll get you the name and paint code tommorow. Can is in the garage right now. You have to prep the hell outta them. I just a 300 frit wet sand first, then I went over them with thinner, then warm water and then one last wet sanding. The first set I did had lots of fish eyes cuz they werent preped right.

I have pics of the whole process I'll put a nice how to together as I go along. Tommorow I tackle the dash pieces that are in the car that cannot be removed. I'll alos post pics of the glove box and arem rest that I did today as well as the center console side panels that used to be carpeted too.

that looks real good. I was thinking about doing the same thing to my car only with different colors, but I wasnt going to use the factory templates, and I wasnt going to paint anything.... Guess that basically means that I dont have the nutz to try something like this on my car...

i would be very interested in a how-to. my interior could use some freshening up... keep us posted :thumb:

Did you just dye the door panels black or did you paint them? I am thinking about doing the same thing, but with gloss black accents

I'm eager to see more pictures. My interior sucks the big one, and I am planning on refurbing the interior when it gets warmer.

Just got my carpet in on Tues. Havent put it in yet. I'll take more pics tonight of the stuff thats done ( 90% of the interior plastics ) and post em tonight.

Thanks guys...

WOW! OMG Your work looks awesome! You're much more adventurous than I am. I got lucky and my interior panels are in pretty good condition. I just gave them a major cleaning. I did have the door panels (upper only), headliner, visors, and rear seats recovered. The front seats are black Tenzo R Rally seats. I took the carpet out and gave it a thorough cleaning. I think doing that stuff made a huge difference. I also bought new parts for the center console from Mach V. 2g shift knob, rectangular coin holder, square coin holder, cigarette lighter, and coin slot. All I need now is a new shift boot, and I'll be set. :thumb:

I just bought 2 leather hides to have the seats redone in leather. Cant wait! The real leather was cheaper then imitation leather.

I bought a carpet from stockinteriors.com, it came in and looks pretty sweet. It has a heel reenforcement pad and all. Cant wait to drop it all back in. Taking pics now, I'll post them in a fe minutes.

Take your time in cutting the new carpet kit. Make 1 long slit down the center and trim that only where needed. I messed up and trimmed a little to much in the back and it kinda shows white floor unfortuanetly. Black carpet kicks ass but shows dirt. Ill start a new thread myself once my seats get done. Im going all black.

i know this particular post was from a while back, but a few questions

1. what type of spray did you use on the vynil parts (like the doors) and is it holding up so far?
2. where did you get the carpet, precut/molded or just a peice of carpet you plan to make fit
3. looks good so far :thumb:

On the center consoler(ashtray, coin holder) what spray did you use and how did you get it so smooth and shiney?

1. Its sold at Advance Auto Parts and is specificly for plastic and viynls. I used it on my last car it it worked out fine for the 2 years I had it. Dude who does auto restoration for a living on an auto restoration forum I visit recomended it to me. I can get you the specific name and paint code tommorow when I go by advance.

Carpet came from
CARPET INFO
Its a full molded carpet, I'll be installing it after the car comes back from paint. Right now I am knocking out the engine. I pick up the seats this week. Stock seats reupholstered in black leather with black suede seating surfaces.

This was the hardest part to do so far because of the prep work involved. I used Plasti Prep and lots of wet sanding to get them clean. Then I used an adhesive promoter with grey primer on top, wet sand some more and then apply paint. I used a graphite color "WHEEL" paint that you can find at advance as well. After it set for a lil while I went over it with a heat gun on a low setting.

Thanks for the kind words folks. Its a work in progress

Well I think your interior is gonna turn out very clean. Im not a fan of white faced gauges, but I like that style that you have. The effort your putting in will defintly pay off. You seem to really be taking your time and making sure everything is done correctly. Good job. Keep it up.

P.S. are you keeping the amber night lights?

It had white clear corner lights on it when I bought it if thats what your refering to. I may go back to amber, I am not a huge fan of clear corners on my own vehicles. I may just tint the ones I have. ;)
