hey guys, right now i have about 150-200 to spend on a deck, about 100 for each set of speakers. later on im planning a sub and amp. also, i would like a deck that i can connect my IPod to, to save on all the cd's. thanks
:dsm:

OK let me think, I don't know any specifics on what decks are IPOD friendly or not but for decks I recommend Clarion (what I have used for my past 2 decks), Pioneer, Kenwood, and JVC. Alpine is good too but if you got Alpine I'd have to recommend one that's more than in your price range, I've heard a few complaints about their cheaper decks.

For speakers in your price range there should be a few. I think Infinity has some affordable ones, hell, I think even Rockford Fosgate has some in that range and they sound great. Make sure they're powered correctly or they will blow easily though. One thing I wanna stress though, DO NOT buy any Sony speakers. They are very cheaply made, a waste of money.

my past 3 decks have been kenwoods. i usually dont like kenwood either, but ive always used there decks and have loved them. get a cd/mp3 player one so you dont gotta worry about an ipod, i have like 3 cd's in my car year round if i want another cd, ill burn it onto one of those.

I sell Ipods at work. there is an fm transmitter you can buy so it that they will work in any car stereo, but if thats not your thing, theres a JVC deck that has the 3.5mm mp3 jack right on the faceplate (click the link). There is also an RCA splitter wire that you can plug into the inputs on the back of any deck.

FM Transmitter: $39.99
RCA Splitter: $9.99

I have this deck, and it rocks!

ya i have seen the fm transmitter, but then the sound quality is only as good as radio quality right?

Try a pioneer deck, and im also using 2 Eclipse 6.5" up front, 2 6x9 Eclipse in the back, and a 10" Eclipse Sub.

All eclipse system for my eclipse :D

as far as i know. alpine is the only company that makes ipod compatible decks. you can control all of your playlists and everything from the head unit itself. if this is what you are looking for, any alpine with AI-net will work. any alpine from the 9825 series and up will work. very sweet.

if you are ok with controlling the ipod from the ipod, but just playing it through the stereo, any radio with an auxiliary input will work. with most you will just need an RCA to 1/8" stereo jack convertor, about 5 bucks or so. eclipse uses an 1/8" jack for their aux input, so you would just need the male to male 1/8" jack cable, as long as necessary to get the ipod where you want it to your deck.

Yeah, but in this case, the ipod is the radio station, so it is really clear. Its like driving right next to a radio station all the time. If you've ever hooked up a cd changer through the rf transmitter (way back in the day when there were hardly any decks that controlled cd changers) it will sound like that. probably not competition quality sound, but pretty good sound.

Decks: I like kenwood, especialy if you are planning on running a seperate amp for the speakers. Pioneer is good too, but if you are looking to use an external amp for the speakers don't get it (only 2v preamps, vs kenwoods 5v preamps) honestly though, decent decks start at $300. Id save the $200 you have and wait till you can afford a decent deck (I just got the Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X679, paid about $280 for it, and I love it.)

Speakers: 2-way Infinity Reference 6.5s for the front, and Reference 6.5 shallows for the rear. The Infinity Kappas sound much better honestly, but its all very subtle differences. if your in a car audio shop, and listen in their nice sound proof room, you can hear it clearly. open the door, and the difference is just about gone. add the sound of exhaust/engine and theres no difference at all. If your not going to get a sub, Id steer clear of this setup; the speakers are made for high and mids, the make good bass sound, just not much of it.

with no sub, just get some pioneer speakers. They are a little bright, and not to clear with the highs, but mids are great, and they make a lot of bass, 6.5 3-ways in the front (maybe 2-ways, if you don't listen to much music that needs clear highs), and 6x9 2-ways in the back.

was that ur deck? i missed the auction...do u still ahve it for sale?

I'm very partial to Alpine products myself. I have an Alpine deck with Alpine Type-S 5 1/4's in the front and Type-S 6x9's in the back. They sound great with alittle bass even though my sub/amp were stolen. :(

i have a alpine cda-7897 deck i paid bout $550 for it when they first came out i thin it has that i-pod stuff on it n sumthn to hook up ur cell phone to it too. i reely like it cuz it flips out. i also have the kicker k series 3-way 6x9's n a kicker resolution componet set. bought the 6x9's off ebay for $90 n tha componet set for $80 off my cuzin :D
