was just talking to a friend about classic and antique plates the other day

in pennsylvania 15 year old cars can get classic plates which are emissions exempt

the car has to be all original looking on the exterior though

my 91 and 92 both look bone stock from the outside but they're not quite old enough yet

I hope that's enforced well in PA. I spent some time in Kentucky and Georgia. In both states I think most of the classic plates I saw on the road were on rusted POS's that couldn't have passed emissions, let alone a normal inspection (neither state required saftety inspections). I really can't blame the people driving those cars. They looked poor and neither state had a mass transit system worth mentioning.

I think here, an antique tagged car can only legally be driven on the weekends or something. I'd love to do it!!

yeah, I'm pretty sure there's driving restrictions with those kind of plates and I believe your insurance might go up as well. My regular vanity plates will do just fine, plus I have a 98, so I have to wait a while, haha.

well antique is 25 years in pa - classic is 15

insurance rates i dunno about - not sure why they would go higher though?

i know you are supposed to only drive the car like once a week to work and on weekends or something - but hey what if i commute 1:15 to work? LOL people usually get away with it around here

i think it would be classic to smoke v8s with a classic tagged 4 banger! whee

my triumph is a 75, so thats almost 30 years....i dont have antique plates, but man, insurance is cheap! condon and skelly, 90 bucks a year

My friends about to buy collector plates for his 95 tsi awd .. he just needs written identification from a chrysler dealer .. that says the car is no longer in production and that eagle is no more .. LOL pimpin!

its 20 years here for a Young timer (i think u get a road tax discount)
25 yrs for a special red demo plate(only for test drives, weekendsa, shows etc)exempt from emissions
30 yrs for an "H" after the number on the plate,i think then the car is exempt from emissions and inspection and u dont pay any tax on it

Young timers are classic cars from the late 70s and earley 80s that are rare and must have a cult status or were a special version(eg GTI etc u get the picture),limited production,or there must only be a few 100 left that are registered.. its easy to get around tho..

Does anyone know if california offers something like this? I know they offer personalized plates...

I know it's impossible, but I really wish CA still had the black plates from back in the day...would work well with my black talon. :D

here in PA, i can enter my car in classic car shows... in the shows it is defined as any car that is 10 years or older....
