I am sanding down my whole car, and I primered most of it.. BUTTTTT
after I put down the primer I found a wide variety of scratches about 1/8 or so of an inch deep.. how do I get this to work out, more primer, more sanding? :laser:

What grade of paper are you using? Sounds like sanding scratches. You could use a thin coat of bondo to fill them then use a 320 grit and up to get it nice and smooth.

How are you sanding? Are you using an orbital sander, or a block, or by hand? Sanding by hand tends to make grooves easier then the other two.

If you don't want to go the Bondo route, get about 3-4 good coats of primer on and block sand the entire car. Start with a medium grade (320 is good) until those scratches disappear. Then go over the whole car with 400 and put on another layer of primer. Then you can do a quick 400 sand and maybe 600-800 depending on how nice you want your paintjob to look.

Just remember to take your time and do it right! Imperfections in the primer will look twice as bad when the car is painted.

Good luck! :thumb:

Thanks for the schooling.

I was using a 120 grit I believe.
I have about 2 gallons of bondo, so hey, why not right? :p

Thanks for the help again, appreiciate much. :thumb:

Yeah, 120 is really coarse for what you need to do. Did you go all the way to bare metal, or did you just scuff the factory paint? I find it's easier to just scuff the paint.

Another thing you could do is drive it to a paint shop and have them take a look at it. Without seeing what you have in front of you I can't give you a definite answer as to what I'd do.

Since you used 120 grit, I'm assuming you have ALOT of scratches.

If you need any other help, feel free to PM me or get me on IM.
