Anyone here have a black FMIC? How did you do it? Paint, anodize? If paint, what did you use? Pics would be nice too if anyone has any. :)

Thinking about coloring mine black, just not sure yet. I don't think I want to attract the attention that a big azz shiny FMIC will attract.

search n00b  ;)

seriously, there's been plenty of debates.. basically from what i get is :

anodize if you have the money, LIGHTLY paint if you wanna ghetto-rig.. although others may disagree, i doubt you'll feel the difference from an anodized or painted FMIC

Pay attention n00b  ;)

I'm already past that. I have searched, and yes the issue as to whether or not painting or anodizing affects and how it affects performance has been beaten to death. That's not what I was asking. If you had actually read my post you would have seen that. This is also another reason I posted this in the Non-Performance section. I am interested in the aesthetic perspective, hence why I asked who here has done it and how they went about it.

So i'll try again... I'm looking for people on this forum with a black FMIC. I would like to know which route you went it coloring it black. Paint or anodize? Also, pics would be great! :thumb:

This would help me make the final decision on coloring mine or not, and which way I will go about doing so.

Thanks.

Light coat of black spray paint.

Ooo, that's nice. I don't think I would even notice that was there unless I was looking for it, which is exactly what I want.

Ever noticed any problems with the paint as far as fading, flaking off, or not looking evenly applied (since you don't want to apply more than a thin coat)? Any specific type of paint that you used?

Yeah, i'm probably asking some retarted questions, but i'm just a bit wary when it comes to me taking a can of spray paint to an expensive part and possibly making it look like garbage if I screw up. :p

Oh, and I just thought i'd share the only other decent pics that I was able to find on the net of a black anodized fmic. Here, and here. Now that's stealth, blends right in with the car.

Hey guys quick question my friend painted his car. And appearently he forgot to tell the guy to not paint the FMIC. He got his car back and its painted and his car does not boost know? are they related?

No, a painted intercooler will not result in no boost. Even if it had it candy paint with a clear coat it wouldn't stop it from boosting. The temps would be increased maybe. There is some other problem like a boost leak.

This is a thread from 2 years ago ROFL
