Whatcha think?

looks good --
as for how he made it, from what i see its just a 4 sided box ( 4 pieces of plexi ) held togather with some angle brackets and some glue/calk perhaps ?

yup thats how it looks to me as well. not a huge project if you know how to measure and cut materials.
Looks Noice though. :thumb: real creative idea ;)

Thanks for the comments :)
It's acrylic actually, which is a bìtch to cut because it gets melty/hot where you cut and the little pieces that fly off are as well, but my dremel worked ok, wear some form of glasses, trust me ;)
Just make some measurements along the sides/top of the air filter, take in account the upper ic piping thats gonna be in the way a lil.
The hardest part is cutting the opening for the MAS. I had a rough trace/sketch of the outline, but you usually have to cut a little bigger, and the bolt holes might line up if your lucky ;)
I held it together with 1" 2-hole angle brackets and 3/16" 5mm rivets.
Only took me about 4hrs.
I drove it around last night and it was pretty cool to the touch, so I dont think I'm going to have a problem with the 212º melting point. That was at night though, hopefully a 80º day wont be too much of a difference.

that acrilic stuff is a bi*** to cut,bc the edges turn milky where u cut it if the dremel is at the wrong speed

Exactly, I used the heavy-duty cut off wheels, went through 3 of them. The milky/melted plastic just comes right off with your fingers though after it cools down.
I heard if you put scotch tape across where you're cutting it will eliminate that because it lubricates or something, didn't try it though.

You're supposed to groove acrylic and snap it.

Better, curve a piece around the filter, spaced out about an inch.

OMG defiant didnt use the right word !!!!

ya "score" the plastic then snap it :p

yikes, caught!

looks nice. ive done computer modding in the past, and adding windows using lexan requires cutting. ive used dremel with reinforced cutting wheel and it is not as big of a concern as you guys make it out to be. you dont need to go past 10k rpm and i never once had it melt on me. you would have to be very inconsiderate to let it melt if your cutting at 30krpm which is just ridiculous. you can get clear acrylic blocks and chrome rivets for a real professional job :thumb:

Want to make some more and sell them??? :D

That was my intention ;)
Mine is a little rough overall...dremel slipping here and there, scratch or 2, but it's the 1st one, so I guess that's expected.
They won't be 100% error free, I'm not a machine :)
But they'll be handmade with love, sweat, and beers.
No idea what to charge either WTF!!
If I can find some really heat resistant clear plastic...oh the ideas I have :D

1g's eh... All I'd need to know are specs around the filter basically, and if there's anything in the way going towards the fender. :thumb:

The biggest problem with 1Gs is getting around the Upper IC Pipe - especially if (like in my case) you have a hard pipe there. Between the filter itself and the fender, there's nothing there - but the UICP is still pretty close. Its pretty easy to see in this
engine shot.

Man it gets so hot under there - at the last autocross I was at, my intake temps were going above 150 degrees... a shield would help so much. I've considered picking up something like one of these - but I think an airbox like yours would be a better idea.

LOL this weekend I was cutting plexiglass with an angle grinder for an amplifier enclosure--you think the dremel made a mess, you ain't seen nothin yet haha :p

Anywho, looks good man, now I wanna go home and make somethen purty like that... :thumb:
