Guys , Please feel free top debate amongst the 2 options, but keep it cool.
THanks , steve

.

youll get WAY better responses at www.mp3car.com since people there know everything about specs and all. your asking a car site about computers...LOL i voted for logic btw

Thanks , Chuck . I originally included yuor Pc also but i couldnt get all the specs , other than posted previuosly. I knew you'd be the first to check this out , and hopefully some others that posted in the other threads will too. Isnt the cases both the same as yours.?? Which comp do you think is closer to your and whats better or worse ? I know you know quite a bit about all this cumputer language.

it looks like the xenarc pc has a little bit different case. i also see that the motherboard is 2ghz but honestly, you wont need twice the porcessing speed the viam10000 offers with their 1ghz processor. i have 1ghz, 256mb ram, 250gb 7200rpm hdd and dvd rom and there isnt anything i would change in the comp i have. if you have the money i guess go for the xenarc but i dont think you need to have those specs for a carpc what will be for movies, music, and possably gps and datalogging.

Tiger direct sells a very small pc for $450.Its called the mini book pc..and its about the size of a sega dreamcast.1 800 888 4437 is there number..Check it out! :thumb:

Build it all yourself.

Been contemplating the whole carpc for a while, but now I need one since my head unit just shit the bed.

I'm going with a Xenarc or Lilliput screen, opus 150 watt power supply, 120gb hd for movies/mp3, asus mobo, athlon mobile 2500 due to less voltage requirements, 256mb pc3200/400mhz, and 5.1 sound card.

A lot of people say the 1ghz processor that comes with most Epia mini-itx mobos are enough for what people need to do which in most cases it is, but I'm a computer nerd and I do other things as well as video, music, gps, dsmlink, and a few other things.

The 1ghz C3 is not at all comparable to a p4 1 ghz and if you want to actually multi-task (mp3 along with visualizations, datalog & dvd/divx or mp3, GPS & mp3/divx or dvd) the C3 is gonna lag a bit and I'm not too patient.

Since I'm eliminating the head unit competely, I'm also gonna go with a 4 channel amp.

Building the computer yourself will def be cheaper and it's really not that hard to do.

if you think about it tho, when your tuning or fixing something on your car running dsmlink, you wont want to be running mp3s or anything else. also when your playing movies or music, its the same thing. the p4 takes more power then the c3 i believe and thats why most people go for the c3 instead. When your running the pc, there isnt much need to multitask. my .02

Yeah, i dont think so either. The only multitasks that i'll be doing is listening to music and playing games or listening to music and have my guages on display.

I def agree. For what most people do the c3 should be perfect. I'm just a computer nerd and would feel bad if I didn't go out with a full system, plus I have some parts laying around I can use.

For the power consumption, I'm not a big fan of p4's so I'm stickin with an athlon mobile and I'm gonna underclock it a lil bit due to heat and lower the core voltage to require less power. It all just depends on the power supply you use really. The opus is really one of the only ones that can survive the initial crank and it's also the only one that will turn itself on and off when it recognizes power but unfortunately, their largest size is an under rated 150 watt.

SO this is my dream setup ( what i want to be able to do)

Mediacar
2- 7" zenarc tsv or lilliputs whatever one is better quality
rear view camera with a 7" lcd in place of mirror
Want to completely eliminate head unit.( not essential)
Control- bass , treble , subs, amps, and radio, etc...
Opus power supply
obd-II dataloging / Dsmlink
on-screen guages, speedo, tach , boost etc.........
play cds, dvd,radio,mp3's , stored files etc.....
Gps navigation
Hands free call phone
Play tuochscreen games

Will tghe Logic system be able to handle this ??

If not what all do I still have to get ???

I feel you should build it yourself costs a hell of alot less than 1400 dollars. A barebones set up is 200 bucks gut it add ram and a harddrive power supplies, and a dvd, glass everything yoursel and the lilliput and you are only at 800 bucks. That's what I'm doing
this guy here has a nice carputer and I don't think he spent anywhere close to 1400
http://web.njit.edu/~cas1383/proj/main/
click on his my car, and check it out

mine cost about 1100 including the 7"lilliput touchscreen, 250gb hdd, case, 1ghz processor, via m-1000 mobo, 256mb ram, and dvd cd rom. if you do your research enough, you can build one easily.
