whatare your listening habits? do you want to announce your presence at 3 blocks or are you looking for something clean deep and tight?
Whats your budget?

If you are looking for a nice economical sub a Memphis PR series will play nice tight and deep, but won't be a headbang from 3 blocks away sub. they are under 100 each.

Me I like Elemental Designs...

Yeah, i know those 2 subs get VERY loud, just the first subs that popped in my head.

But if you ARE on a budget, id have to agree and get the ED's. Ive heard nothing but good things about them.

if you want to, go check out www.caraudio.com forums. they can give you quite a bit of help if we dont.

Rockford has gone down I think. I use JL subs and PPI amps. Alpine head units. I used to rock Fosgate stuff, but I just love the power and cleanliness of PPI & JL. Just me though.

i listen to hiphop, country, rap, i listen to it all. i've got a Boss Riot amp (never heard of them till now, its pretty responsive) 1400 watts, and 2 audiobahn 10's (600 watt rms) in a bandpass box. pushed me almost $350 to get it all. i got a jvc head unit, 180 watts between my 2 doors and 2 6x9's in the back. sounds pretty damned nice, specially w/ the hatchback

i have all audiobahn but i listen to dirty south rap LOL lil john ad that stuff deep bass. and the audiobahn is great. and i love to be heard a block away LOL. well over all good but the subs suck for techno and rock that my 2 cents. so listen to what people have and listening habits
for what i have
a class D amp audiobahn 1200rms
3 alum q subs 12in.
witht he sony mp 800. and mb quarts speakers all around

How much are you looking to spend? And how much space you looking to give up? And what kind of music do you listen to?

RE (Resonant Engineering) is great, it can be pricey though.
Elemental Designs is great stuff, they have a new line coming out, and are offering killer pre-order deals right now.
JL is good stuff, but very pricey, not worth the price IMO.

I would stay away from RF speakers.
I personally hate the way audiobahn subs sounds.

Answer my first 3 questions and I can point you in the right direction.

Budget plays a huge role. I helped my friend with his 6000 dollar setup.
And I'm putting a bang for my buck system right now in my eclispe that i just got.
Total different ranges in prices, but similar outputs.

One thing I will always say is stay away from Sony, and of course all those piss poor flea market/auto parts store brands.

As far as subs go, there are plenty of quality ones you can go for.
Audiobahn (what I use), JL, Fusion, Power Acoustik, Eclipse, Xtant, MB Quart, Memphis, Phoenix Gold, MA Audio, Visonik, and so on.

Most of these companies make exceptional amps as well, especially Audiobahn, JL, Eclipse, Xtant, and Phoenix Gold.

Im currently pushing one 12" Memphis with a rockford amp. Total subsetup cost me about $200. I get many complimants and alot of people are damn surprised its only one 12 :thumb: I also listen to all types of music.

Cant go wrong with Audiobahn.. i listen to all kinds of music.. everything from rap to emo, punk.. etc.. not 1 thing to complain about.. 2 10in flame q's (1000rms each 2000max)... with an audiobahn amp (not sure on the model off hand) pushing 2000rms... sounds great with any type of music... in a custom built box setup to sound good with all types of music :thumb: i have to say this is by far the best system ive owned and definently one of the best higher-power quality ive heard... you just need to make sure you have enough clearance for the huge magnent and buy/build the correct box for your favorite type of music. If your on a tight budget though, may want to look into something else.

Make sure you spend the most on your speakers/subwoofers as those will be what your hearing in the end. The higher the wattage the better. I run JL Audio's and highly reccomend those or MTX's. If your low on cash go with MTX. As for amps just get the most power. I went to the fleamarket and got a 1200 watt amp to run 2 JL 10 inch subs and that shit bangs hard. I dont even turn it up all the way.

Head Units- Alpine hands down if you got the cash. Pioneer is most bang for buck.

Note: An alarm is a must unless you want to get your shit jacked. Although if they want it bad enough u will get jacked. Also you will need a good installer I wouldn't suggest doing it yourself.

If you got any more questions get at me.

EDIT!!: Sorry, after re-reading I noticed you were talking about the alarm. I totally agree with you on that one. It really is a PITA to install any decent alarm in a car (one that hooks up to all the doors and has keyless entry etc.. not just the shock sensor). Unless you have a lot of experience doing it, good luck. I did it myself on my last car and it was a pain even having good technical/electrical knowledge.. next time ill probably just have a shop do it.

Just wondering why you suggest not doing it yourself? Ive always installed my stereo equipment in my cars, as well as many of my friends... I just basically dont trust others to do the job right, plus ive heard the horror stories. I guess I would say dont do it yourself if you dont know what your doing, but if you know how to do it right, go ahead.

i've installed everything in my car (mechanical and electrical) that's needed done, except for my alarm. it was a bi*** making a hole big enough in my firewall for a 4gauge wire, but that was the hardest part of installing my amp. that, and finding somewhere that it would fit. too big for the back (spare tire in the way), too tall to fit under the seats. it takes up my whole floorboard on the drivers side for the back seat. i'm 5'8, you guys that are about that tall and have the seat back about the same dist. can see how little room there is back there, or in the back seat in general. if you have the knowhow and can follow directions, good luck on your audio setup, and take some pics when you've got it done :thumb:

Audiobahn IMO based on my personal listening and reviews from ME and other mags is decent, but not great.
It generally cost more $ for the same output for the amps than other manufacturers but has the biggest "bling" factor.

The subs are good but again costly for the performance given, and not as Tight as some others. Fine for boomy music, but if you listen to rock or anything other than a slightly boomy proccessed bass line you MIGHT hear some minor deficiencies.

I say might cause everyone has their own idea of what sounds best, what it supposed to sound like, and their own limits of auditory analysis.
me i grew up in a musical household. I'm cursed with perfect pitch and exceptional hearing, and I grew up with great home audio systems...

I think what you should do is go audition some home audio systems wiht your kind of music, get a good feel for what it sounds like and takethat same disc to the car audio places near you and listen to their systems.
Make sure the head units are set a 0 on the bass with no loudness, and use the same amp and head ofr your listening session.

Then make a decision based on your persona total tastes and not what we all opine on the net!

I kinda know what your saying.. I would say more with the 12s though... I heard some audiobahn 12s same model as my tens... and I really didnt like the sound they had... was good for like hip-hop and what not, but I wasnt feeling it with rock music and such. His box and tuning was probably part of the problem to, but Ive always really liked 10s better for "general/all-type" of music listening. Im a freak about having things tuned properly to sound right and having boxes built right, and I think the audiobahn flame 10s are one of the best most crisp/tight whatnot speakers (if you have them setup properly of course ;-). But again, depends what kinda of sound you like, how you set your system up, and of course your budget!!! JL Audio is suppoed to be really good to. Not a lot of expierence with them, but they sound really good in my friends blazer. If you need something cheaper, and dont need all the power but still want good quality, check out Kenwood. I know a lot of people think they are crap, but IMO they are another one of the better quality sounding subs. They generally dont like to get to much power though or be loud, then they get lame. I think rockford is decent, but kinda overpriced. I havent really looked at their newer stuff though.
