Well, I've been thinking about turning my '97 RS into a show car.

Visual things I'm planning on are:

-Aero Xtreme Rear bumper
-Blitz High Sideskirts
-Red Glow Gauges
-Red Neons under the Dash
-Paint the Interior (Red/Black)
-5zigen MK-6 Wheels
-GReddy Evo Exhaust

What are some other visual mods I could do to make my car look better or that are a must for car shows?

FIRST THING TO DO TO ANY SHOW CAR IMO CUSTOM PAINT JOB!!
seriously a stock color is not gonna turn any heads

what color are you?

clean everything REALLY well, make it sparkle, including the lil nooks and crannys where they wouldn't loko anyway. Dress your engine bay up. if you paint the interior, do it good! don't waste time on it

i woudl suggest a custom colour. Like the 300z blue or the ferrari red, soemthing thats not stock on an everyday car. One dude on ehre has a Lexux graphite color and its incredibly good looking.

Well, before this idea, I was talking to my dad about getting it painted black because it needs a new paintjob anyways, and he said no because it would cost more because of the door jams and such.

If I got it painted another color of red, like the ferrari red you were talking about, would I still have to get the door jams and stuff painted, or could I let that go?

Edit: and would it be possible to have a show car as a daily driver, or no?

Not in Minesota. No offence, but I know about MN roads. If you're serious about the whole showcar thing (and, again, no offence, I think you'd be better off getting a turbo [G1 or G2, just something with a 4G63...] and having a good time with that...) and you do the whole clean, dressed up engine bay with custom paint don't EVER take your car on the MN roads. Potholes + bigass killer bugs + random road crap = cleanliness death. Maybe in SoCal once in a while if you can justify about 30 hours of cleaning for 2 hours of driving.

So don't drive it daily. But have fun, turbo or not. And pick up every chick you can...

;)

The roads here aren't that great. I drive my car on nice days. The car isn't trailered. I would haul it to shows that aren't within a decent distance, but I have no trailer. ANYWAY, I try to keep the car out of rain. If I am caught in rain, the car is washed immediately the following day. It stays parked for days at a time. I would not want to drive it every day. Stuff happens. When your car begins to look more like a show car, young kids are going to be more likely to try and show off when they see you. I have almost been clipped, ran off the road, etc. So I'd say it's your call. I wouldn't park a car 100% EVER. It's not what it was made for. Enjoy it if you're going to enhance it.

show car = $$$$$$$

Just look at pics from hot import nights, nopi, SEMA, Tokyo IAS, etc etc. That should give you a good idea of what you need for a showcar.

On a show car everything is visual,
What you have listed are just the basic's , your gonna need alot of I.C.E. and $$$ to be a serious contender. You want to incorporate alot or a few of "one of a kind " stuff. Whatever it be , but unique though.

Actually, with experience attending car shows and winning quite a few, I'd say the main thing is cleanliness. Make sure the car is pretty much detailed ALL THE TIME. You can't have dirt ANYWHERE. After cleanliness, originality and the quality of the mods really counts.

I go out to hang out with friends, and people think my car is detailed when I call it filthy. That might give you some example of what I mean by keeping it clean.

show car musts?

creativity, being unique, while keeping it CLEAN.

a shitload of fiberglass and some TVs never hurt either

I think I'll just be using this as future reference, as I need a daily driver, and can't afford another car at the moment.

Paint job! And black is the worst color for shows.
Get some new seats, big wheels, chrome everything under the hood, etc... Oh and nitrous gets a lot of attention. "Look he has NAWZZZ!!!"

i live in mn and im making my car a daily driver / semi show car.
all the body work i will be doing myself including paintjob, installing kit and other stuff. my car driven daily so its not going to be a FULL show car, just to local shows where people hang out and have fun. in the interior i have alot of functional useful stuff that will be good for shows as well (carpc, touchscreen, 2 k11.2 10" subs and Nine.1 amp fiberglassed over the rear seats) but nothing worthy of storing my car for shows only.

See that's what I was talking about.

I think mine is worthy of shows and I put alot of money into it.However..that doesnt mean it will compete in any shows and make good places. It al depends on if you can get hte entire car to follow a scheme..a theme. It all have to flow well together...every part must complete each other..very important.
Today it has fgone to far I think..no private person can build a show car for winning unless youre loaded.I spent alot....and still I am not near winning shows with it.I did it for me though...and if ppl like itit good but I wont cry over a lost show ya know.

What I am trying to say is that it doesnt matter how much you have on the car opr spent on it..its the final flow of the build htat will make it a show winner5.Unique stuff...creativity..custom stuff...Thats what counts.

amen...by the way, how is your interior coming along?

all the things you listed are just normal bolt on stuff. Today if you wanna get some attention you need to do some mods that take alota time, money, and fiber glass. Like fiberglass door panels, dash, get a couple LCD's in there, maby a good lookin computer. Sparco seats get alot of attention, they arent to hard to get custom apolstered eather, but it will cost you a whole lot of money. Just take a look at what some of the high end car shops are doing on the $60,000+ cars and see what you can do on yours to make it look the same.

The evil Z24 is a helluva car. I don't really like cavaliers, but I'd take that. That guy wins atleast $2,000 everytime he goes to HIN, probably gets checks from sponsors, not to mention free parts and labor, etc. The NCCA purse was already up to $6,000 last time I checked. Whoever finishes top dog overall gets the purse as a bonus. OMG

Hey Guys,

your off a bit, i used to be a regional leader of a club in which its goal was to aquire sponsors for diff cars so i have a bit of experiance.

there are different classes in which normal street cars can be entered. then theres the class of the trailer queens.

it sucks because nowadays judges are anal because they love trailer queens and after seeing so many n ice ones, when they see street class they arent as nice.

but the main thing that matters. BE UNIQUE.

For example. Blitz :thumbdown welcome to the F&F category good luck being one of all the million others with a blitz kit.

Money and investment. dont buy anything just to have it. you build with cheap parts you get cheap results.

take your time. do it right.

Clean, It SUCKS!! but you HAVE to detail it, and detail it. But get a friend. if its one person youll wear yourself out and get lazy and do a half ass job, many hands make heavy work light. There are tips and tricks to get the best results, i think ill make a post discussing everyones diff tricks in another thread.

Be unique. Make something that someone will look at it and it can be the TINIEST thing, but if someone can notice it and be impressed your heading in the right direction, just keep on adding and adding to it till you have a car that can amaze people.

Never ever be proud of anything that you buy from: pepboys, autozone, etc and install on your car, Car freshners are acceptable.

i hope this helps a bit, theres so much more so if you want ill write it up.

Experiance, Go to shows, and watch, and learn, and talk to them,

the thread about whether to have krylon fuzion or #ema paint, look in there, that car took second place in import rev womens division, number one was a JAW dropper, the number one took first place the year before for best paint. I was proud cause i pulled an "american chopper" (the show about making motorcycles) on that car, pure deadline, running to diff shops, working, yelling, eating. haha.

You definatly need to paint the door jams, hatch area, and engine bay if you want to seriously compete in shows. It will be noticable that the color is different and you would probalby loose points because of it.

Being Unique and keeping everythign VERY CLEAN are the biggest things. You will also need lots of $$$$$ if you want to be a serious show competitor at the big shows.
