New System Help

ok hi im getting a new system for my 97 eclipse. right now i have the stock 6 speaker infinity system. and for some reason everyone told me that the front speakers are 6.5 but when i took my door panel off my speakers were 5 1/4. anyone know y that is? . and i also have another question. im tring to get all audiobahn for my car do u guys think audiobahn is good?. and also what do u guys think of these for the front of my car? http://www.cardomain.com/item/ABNABC525T

For my opinion, dont go woth audiobahn. They LOOK good, but thats about where it ends. If you want real quality, for your mids get some clarion component speakers. Subs, get pioneer or jl audio. for amp, there is only one choice. Rockford Fosgate. Dont even think about gettin a different kind Rockford make the best amps, period.

There is my humble opinion, but its your car, so do what ya want!

I say RF went downhill bigtime a few years back when they hit the big-box stores (i.e. BestBuy). but to each his own.

Personally, it's all /////Alpine for me. however, Infinity Pefect/Kappa are good speakers, as are Boston Accoustics, Image Dynamics & MB Quartz. JL does make some quality amps (even though i don't like them). Boston Acoustics amps are pretty sweet & solid as well. VERY VERY good sounding, they are class A/B and are VERY musical in my opinion.

I love my Alpine though.

if you go rockford you have to go with the Power series and not the base models.

I worked at best buy and i can say that the better quality ones are pretty good, but the ones at best buy are crap. They had better mids than clarion though.

I like MBquart or Alpine R Mids, PG mids are good too. I have kicker amps older ones (impulse) b/c I got more watts per $ that way and it is still good quality product..

Recommendation: buy a last year or 2 year old model that is on clearance b/c of a new model (particularly appearance). Get a name brand amp, and it will be fine for mids/tweeters, coaxials.

For subs get something that is powerful into 2 ohms either a digital sub amp or a good 2 channel anmp that can be bridged into 4 ohms.

Geta good quality sub, like Elemental Designs or JL audio. Geta good 3way active xover to you can fine tune the system particularly xover points, and dont use bass boost anywhere or loudness feature on the head.
On the tweeters usually a -3db setting is desirable b/c of the amount of glass IMO and experience


Al together this would give you a very tight and more than loud enough system.

I'm partial to eclipse speakers, they are hard to find in local stores (I bought mine from a local Custom Sounds), but I have had a hard time finding any other speakers that match them for quality sound (unless you go infinity gold) and my vote for amps would have to be Phoenix Gold (kinda pricey though). If you buy rockford beware, some of their stuff is a POS.

audiobahn sounds nice mostly, but the subs really overheat!! I have had about every brand of stereo equipment, and most of the time... you get what you pay for!! .. i have never had bad experiences with anything MTX or Power Acoustic (just don't buy bottom line stuff)

P.S.- make sure whatever you buy.. get a good warranty
