i am trying to remove the corner lights for cleaning on my 91 tsi, but do not know how to take them out , if anyone could please aid me i would gladly appreciate it

The lights are kinda retarded the way they are held in and if you aren't careful. you can easily break the part that holds it in (like me).

1. Take the center logo out, should be 2 screws and some clips that you poke with a screwdriver.
2. unscrew the headlight/ turning signal cover. Don't forget to unplug the lights from it. This part bends out slightly and then pull it towards the opposite side of the car. There is a tab that inserts into the side marker. This one is a little harder to break but it's still possible. Plus if it has neever been off it's probably seized in there pretty good.
3. Now you can get at the screws for the side marker. once you undo those, DO NOT bend the side marker out. If you bend it very far the tab that holds it in will break. It's really easy to do on these old cars. Pull the side marker out towards the front of your car. It should pop out much easier than the turning signal. Don't pull to hard because it will still be attached to the side marker lights.

This is all assuming that you were taking out the front lights.
For the rear,
1. There should be some plastic panelling behind the corner. Remove this.
2. Disconnect all the lights and move them out of your way.
3. Remove the center piece of plastic covering the lock mechanism.
4. To do this, There will be 4 little plastic buttons alone the top, pop these out. There will also be 2 or 3 screws holding the damn thing in. Now you just have to pry at it once you are sure you got all the screws. It's held on the same way your door panels are.
5. There will be 7 nuts you have to undo to take the center lens out.
6. Remove the center lens.
7. undo the 6 or so nuts that are holding in the corner marker.
8 If you wiggle it it shouldn't be that hard to take out.

It may be possible to remove the corner marker without taking out the center lens but I haven't found it. It's soooo much easier just to do the center first and work your way out.

Good luck
