Ok, heres my dilemma. I have a nice first car in my opinion, a 1993 Eclipse base 1.8L 5 spd. Its quick, not that quick, but its quick. I like the looks, it looks killer. My question is should I make the car look good (body kit, sound, rims, etc, etc.) or buy a faster car. I dont mind the 1.8L, it hangs with my friends cars, so im not in need of anything faster. Of course Ill do the exhaust, and underdrive pulleys, etc, etc.

Sorry to bring you my problems, I just need advice.

Im kind of in the same boat, I have a 1.8 and my thought is this: Do i race? NO, do i have a lead foot and need to show off to all those kids in their hondas? NO, With rising gas prices do I want the better mileage that comes from my 1.8 compared to a 2.0 turbo with those expensive performance goodies to make you go 1/2 a second to a second faster in the quarter mile? I want the gas mileage. Yeah us 1.8 folk take alot of ribbing and getting told we should sell our cars and go buy a turbo model. Then go out and spend a thousand dollars on performance upgrades. If racing and blowing the doors off that honda or mustang is not a big priority, stick with the 1.8 and use the money to improve the looks and handling.
Dont get me wrong, If i could find a great deal on a turbo model, that didnt need alot of work done to make it look and run great, Id go for it. But as i said it's not a high priority on my list.
hell, look at my gallery or sig pic, i've got hubcaps on my car. But only until the end of the week when i get my primax wheels and tires on it.

I like to showoff, no doubt about that, but my car easily can take a Civic DX and some other cars around here (at least from a stoplight where they rev and look at me). I dont need gobs of horsepower, but I plan on buying a GSX when I turn 18 in a year. My insuranc is too high already. So im still looking for opinions, I mean is it wrong to make a quick car look damn good?

apparently, young sir, you haven't gotten in a ride in a turbo DSM yet :p jp with ya. i'll vote just drive it because right now, i dont want to be paying 35 bucks to fill my tank every 2-3 days.. so that's why i drive slow LOL.

keep it, enjoy it, save the money to buy a turbo AWD and keep the 1.8 as a beater. trust me, it'll all work out :thumb:

Nope, havent ridden in a turboi DSM yet. I still want something to do over summer break, I was planning on making my car look killer.

Ah well, I have 3 days before school is done for the summer, Ill decide then. I feel sorry for my 1.8.

As much as us nonturbo guys hate to hear it, most people say sell it and get a turbo car, but most of us like to be different and try to make a fast nonturbo, which would be cool, but the amount of money you would be dumping into this car it would be a waste of time, i rode in a 1g gst about 1 1/2 years ago, after that i got back into my nonturbo and was totally depressed, its addictive and once you drive/ride in one theres no turning back, the best route to go is to just save up for the turbo car and keep the one you have now for a daily driver. thats what my plans are and im stickin to it, but theres nothing wrong with modding a non-turbo, thats my $.02

I say "Just drive it". I was in the same problem. I have a 92 Talon 2.0. Not to long ago it was turbo. I did the turbo conversion on my 2.0 N/T using a Big16G turbo and some other mods. Check my profile/Mods list for them. Before my car was turbo it was already pretty quick. The best 1/4 mile time when I was N/T was a 15.9. The most recent time was a 16.01. I never got to run it when it was turbo because it always broke. I kept on having fuel pump problems. Along with my Big16G spinning a bearing as some of you know. Then I got a 14B and it kept on having a oil seal problem. But the times that it was running it hauled ass. Being front wheel drive AND turbo WITH mods WITH already bald tires. I couldn't get any traction at all. Only time I could beat the stangs and v8's was from a roll. Plus me having a lead foot and addicted to boost I would always be on the loud pedal just listeing to the spool up and my Turbo XS BOV. I put $10 in gas like every other day. Now that I am non turbo again it sucks. I still have the 255 fuel pump in and it runs like shit. I am just to lazy to put the stocker in. I miss having my turbo so much that I listen to my custom cai for the sucking noise and the little fake bov sound it makes when I shift. I am so pathetic. I am now saving $$$ to boost my car again and to finish my summer project. Just some words of advise.

My confidence levels are dwindling...

Slowly, like a fire or something, but they are definately dwindling.... Since im still in high school, I live with my mom, and my mom is like no more cars for you, probably because ive gone through 3 since ive had my license (December 1st). You will be happy to know that Ive had the DSM since february - the longest.

I might put a 2.0T motor in the car. It cant be that hard....
