I was looking into gettin somea vent gauge bezel for my TSI. I wanted to make room for my tach near the a pillar. But I have been thinking that m with the heat or AC on, the gauges would be subjected to kinda a harsh climate. anyone know anything about this?.

Also, how does the bezel stay in place? It just looks like a flat peice of material, where as, the stock piece has clips that hold it into place.

If you're that worried about the temps... you can block off the vent with sheet of plastic or metal. There's always duct tape... it'll just make other vents blow more.

ya that is kinda what I am talking about. But to be more specific, this is what I want. But I do not know how it mounts, don't wanna have it in the car if I always have to mess with it

i made one VERY similar to that a few years back for my Talon out of black plexi-glass. (but it only held 2 guages) it pressure fit directly into the opening. about once a month or so i noticed it getting slightly loose, so i had to gently push it back into place. other than that, no problems ever. i'm assuming those are pressure fit as well. you can also try a dab of silicone in a few places to hold it into place, or a little velcro in the corners as well might do the trick

Not pressure fit. The bezel is only a few couple millimeters thick. Look at the picture. You'll have to trim the mounting bracket for the stock center vent to make room for gauge. After that you'll have to use some sort of adhesive... silicone, hot glue, velcro, snot(not really), or whatever to hold it in place.

I bought one and am planning to use it as a template to make a copy out of plex and drill the gauge openings slightly closer to one another and rivet the bezel in place to the stock brackets. Cutting the brackets just don't seem like a good idea since they are also attachment points for that part of the dash. The 1G rattles plenty as it is... don't need to make it worse.

Well I stayed up til 4 am, but I found what I wanted on the search. It is the Machv piece. I am not sure if I like how far it sicks out. But it is molded plastic and it angkes the gauges a hair. :thumb: Plus it is held in by screws

I saw one on here before for a 2g and it had the Apexi Turbo Timer and Apexi Air/Fuel Controller in it . Does anyone know where I can get one? Thanks :talon: ESI 2 TSI

.

mine pressure fit right into place. and was the same thickness. i used 1/8" plexi. worked great

glad you found what you were looking for though. good luck with your project. be careful while cutting the plexi glass, it cracks easily.

I've worked with plex before. Rotozip it with a cutting bit, not cutting wheel. Piece of cake.

I have the one from Starightline and it just pressfits in there along with the AFC and it has never fallen out. If you are really worried, then just put a dab of glue so that it doesnt fall out. You can see a pic in my gallery.

I personaly refuse to use any of the pos vent guage pods I have seen.

heres what im going to do.

Take the stock vent and remove the fins and and center piece, then fiberglass it all over nice and thick. cut two 52mm holes out, test fit my guages. then sand and paint it. So it looks more like a factory piece than a flat piece of metel..

Sounds like a bunch of work to get the samething. I also dont see how they are a POS. i was thinking about doing something you are talking about, but I dont work with fiberglass alot. All the "home fiberglassing" I have seen in person usually looks kinda crappy and for 35.00 shipped they arent a bad idea. To each his own.

MachV has the best one. They are contoured and angled at the driver. They also are mounted in using screws in the stock location. BUT, I ordered one and they are on back order

I agree: I have a 2G bezel from them... I dont know how you could call it a POS, its great.

It is a simple piece that does what is supposed to do and nothign more or less. That takes it out of the POS category for me. I could see if had one and it broke or didnt work, but I havent heard of anyone that had problems or didnt like it. I think a better response would have been that he didnt like the product it self.
