I bought a set of Polk 6 1/2's and when i went to put them in they fit nowhere near the facotry holes. i noticed that the holder that the speaker goes in looks like it could almost hold a 6x9 does anyone know how a good brand of speakers in a 6 1/2 that will fit factory holes or does anyone know if i can buy a whole new piece that holds the speaker in and that will hold a 6x9 and where i can buy it, if someone could help me i would appreciate it

Make yourself a mountplate out of 1/2" MDF and silicone it in place and mount the speakers to that and your set.

If you make a mount plate the 6.5's will mount to the plate and you mount the plate to the car. The plate will basically look like a 6x9 but a little bigger and it will have a hole cut in it for a 6.5. Get it? :D

i was two i dont see why they make it so diffucult to swtich speakers so i guess im just going to make a mount plate

RippinGSX what should i make the mount plate out of and how do i do this?? if you could reply back i would appreciate it

Ok man. Take the old stock speaker and lay it face down on a piece of MDF or medium density fiberboard (particle board) and trace it. Before you cut it out, cut the hole out for the 6.5 and then cut out the trace of the stock speaker. Mount the 6.5 to this and mount the whole thing in the car and your done.

No problem ;) It's the easist thing to do and dosn't cost anything if you have some scrap wood lying around. It doesn't have to be mdf, any 1/2" wood stock will work. Just don't go making a sub box out of any ole wood though :D
One more thing, you may want to make your trace a little bigger than the stock speaker so it doesn't break when you screw it in to the car and gives you a little more material to work with.

It's easier to make them yourself. Why would you pay for something you can easily make yourself.

No need to be sorry ;) I just can't see giving Crotchfield money for something that's so easy ;)

in my car i removed the puny stock stereo system to find out that the sixx9 's were not going to fit (although i was told that 6x9's were going to fit no prob.). i busted out the hack saw loped the two nubs at the top and buttom then cut out a bigger whole to fit the speaker then drilled the speaker to the new piece and bolted it back in... that easy. I also Reckomend while your back there and you have the back seat out and the two side panels that u pick up some home insulation $10 (i got he 3" acoustical kind) I put a strip under each butt cushion (softer) in the rear seat and filled the spaces in the side of the car ...You would not believe how mch better my system sounds and Interior noise is reduced drastically. Also my car heats up fast in the winter and retains my AC in the summer much better. :dsm: :D
