I ordered PCP Motorsports 9005 12V 100W headlight bulbs awhile back (well about 2 months ago) and rewired my headlight circuit to handle the extra wattage and amperage draw. I did not touch the blub when I put it in (I am using it in the low beam spot) and tonight one of them burnt out. Does anybody have any idea what could cause the bulb to burn out that quick? I don't know if it actually burnt out because the glass was not burnt, but the bottom of the coil busted so maybe defective?

Also are all 9005 headlight bulbs the same? Like if a F350 pickup takes a 9005 bulb would that be the same 9005 I could use in my Talon?

Thanks! :thumb:

Any bulb can burn out for no reason. you could have just slightly touched the bulb or it could have like you said been defective. All 9005 bulbs are the same so that's not it. PCP parts are ok but i would get a set of Piaa bulbs if you truely want to be happy.

Ok cool thanks. I'll look into the PIAA blubs. I heard before they were good also. The reason I was asking if the 9005's were all the same is because I found some good bulbs on ebay for pretty cheap. They were 9005s but they wern't for a DSM. I will defiantly look more into the Piaa bulbs before I order new ones though. Hopefully the local store here will carry those otherwise I will have to drive around with my old ugly lights in :( oh well :)

9005 (HB3) is an industry standard which refers to the bulb envelope, filament position in relation to base mount, and type of connector/bosses/angle of the package.

Never bother with PIAA, they're hideously, rip-offingly expensive. Go with Sylvania Silver Stars (made by Osram).

100W in the stock reflector is beyond payoff, 85 is about as much as it can use.

I run 9005s for both hi beams and low.
