does anyone have any pics of 2gs with colorshift paint? im trying to decide between the bright neon green or a colorshift green to purple or silver, but i havent seen any eclipses with the colorshift. anyone got any?

I don't have any pictures, but...
It looks pretty cool, but it costs like $800 a quart and you need somewhere around 8 or more quarts to coat the car. The more coats you apply the more noticable the paint will be. Dupont has a lifetime warrenty on it. I know for a fact that Dupont and House of Kolors makes it, not too sure about PPG.

PPG does make it, its called Harliquin(spelled close), and yes it is very expensive. another thing you will want to think about is how often do you drive the car? if its a daily driver its not worth it. if you get a chip, scratch, or anything of the sort, you have to paint the whole car again. you cant touch it up do to the color shift. just thought i'd try to help a little, my uncles a body and paint man, so i've picked up on a few things, plus i was looking at the same color for my car.

The DuPont stuff has the best color shifting qualities, it's called Chromalusion.Around my area it is $386 a pint, it is not very practical to paint an entire car out of it either because of the chip thing(stated above), it is reasonably blendable, but repairs will stick out like a sore thumb.DuPont only offers a lifetime warranty if you use all their products(primer, sealer, clearcoat, etc).If you paint the car black first(like you are supposed to), it will only take about 2 quarts(reduced 50/50 for a total of a gallon) for the complete effect. Its not a good example(hard see a color shift in a stationary picture), but check my pics in the gallery, my last paint job I put Blue-Steel Prism(Chromalusion) over Dodge Ram Intense Blue Pearl(which reduced some color shift also).A local paint shop in your area should have color plaques you can look at too.

mine's colorchange inside. i did it, check out my gallery. or if u want more photos IM me and i can show you more:thumb:

how did you go about painting the interior? did you sand and primer or what? what kind of paint is that?

you would have to repaint the whole car for a chip or scratch? i understand that you couldnt just paint over the scratch because of the way these paints work, but why couldnt you just repaint the body piece that was chipped or scratched?

Thats not true, the color underneath is the only thing that effects the color shift. As long as you have a sufficient amount of coats, any more coats won't effect anything. If you get a chip you can't just touch it up, you'll have to repaint the whole panel, not the whole car.The paint works the way it does because there are tiny prisms in the paint, so any deviation in smoothness of the top layer will cause light to be refracted differently.

lots of false info here

1. its called duponts chromalusion

2. greater effect of the paint is determined by the undercoat color

3. it only takes about 2-3 quarts to paint oour cars, 8 quarts of paint was stated earlier, what the hell is he painting? a bus?

4. look to pay 2500-3000 for the paintjob

5. the color cant be matched but can be broken

6. theres no warranty on none of the custom paints by dupont, house of color, ghk, ppg, becuase there no warranty on who mixes and applys the paint, poor painters, mean less abuse the paint will take. not properly mixed paint, will fade over time

hope this helps

1. Already said that above.

2. Already said that above.

3. Already said that above.

5. Don't know what you mean by that. You can't blend a small spot, but you can easily blend a panel without repainting the whole vehicle. This is a myth started by body shops to make more money.

6. According to the DuPont tech manual in front of me, there is definately a warranty.Like I said, its up to lifetime if you use all DuPont products. And I have personally had DuPont warranty clearcoat on one of my cars previous paint jobs, as well as various products for the custom paint shop I worked for 6-7 years, as long as you can convince the DuPont rep the warranty requirements were met, they will warranty no problem(materials only).BTW Chromalusion is a factory mixed paint also.

having had chromalusion colored cars, constantly in my presence, and working with several different projects, real true life projects, not internet gossip

after playing a big role in my own custom paint job, i think i know a lil about paints ;)

ir·i·des·cent

adj.

1. Producing a display of lustrous, rainbowlike colors: an iridescent oil slick; iridescent plumage.

2. Brilliant, lustrous, or colorful in effect or appearance: “The prelude was as iridescent as a prism in a morning room” (Carson McCullers).

Dupont Chromalusion's just a kind of iridescent paint..like NAWWWWWS is to nitrous oxide. Crest to toothpaste....

PPG :thumb:

The best color shfiting paint is PPG Mysticsomethingororther, its the paint used on the color changing Cobras. It's also ONLY sold to Ford, and ONLY allowed to be painted on Cobras - and once they finish, they destroy all left over paint.

If I remember correctly, the paint on the mustangs is BASF, not PPG, at least when that color first came out.The difference between brands is minimal(DuPonts has the best effect), the pigment(called Flex something or other) that causes the color shifts in all brands, is made by the same company(called Flex something or other).

I will be one to say it is a bish, to watch out for your paint. Almost impossible to fix any damage without it costing a grip load. It gets a lot of looks, and people pull up aside me on the freeway while doing 70, waving to roll down my window, and then ask me.... "Where'd you get that paint" or "Whats that paint called" LOL
If I remember correctly, it has a black basecoat, then painted with a.... (still in it's development stage).... a rainbow coat over it. Toped off with maybe 10 layers of clear.
These pictures I have are old, and I had just got my Digital Camera so I didnt know how to use it right...., so maybe check in my gallery in a month for a bunch of new ones... Here's one for now that shows the color combo's changing.

Very surprised $3000 paint jobs don't get the typical flame remarks considering it's a mod with zero performance value. Mention bodykits, spoilers, and lighting and holy shit you should burn in hell.

These paint jobs look tight on show cars, but man I couldn't ever park anyplace in public for fear of some asshole keying the paint.

I was in highschool when my Prelude was PPG Harlequinn, now THAT was friggin scary. I'd park 2 miles away from everyone.

I don't know about Ford's, but I think you are right. A friend has the BASF Mustang Cobra Saleen that was at the SEMA show a couple years back. It's just parked in his garage, too affraid to drive it.
