I went to the First Lap Of Americas opening race at the Autobahn Country Club today and snapped a bunch of pictures for you guys. You might have seen AMS's link in the TrackTalk section on our site. I got there about 2 oclock and left at about 5. There were soo many cars that were picture worthy but I can only resize and host soo many before I get bored. Enjoy.

The guy that owned it was really cool. It sure looked silly seeing that car drive off the track and onto the street toting its trailer of goods (yes 500k vipers come with trailer hitches). I couldnt imagine driving that many road miles in that rudimentary beast.

I was really considering going to this thing. Now that I see all those cars, I think I missed out... :(

I didn't even notice the trailer hitch on it! OMG

I take it back, if it's a street car then wow.

Well the class regulations require you to tow you and your gear the entire duration I guess. You must complete the ENTIRE event schedule to be eligible to win.

I wouldnt call it a street car. :sneaky:

I just went and picked up my new camera before I went there. I hope the pictures all look good. It took me forever to resize and host all of em.

wow! Lotta nice cars showed up, Guess that f40 wasnt racing though, no hitch no race right! That viper is badass, look at the engine bay, the only thing that resembles a stock aprt is the valvecovers! I wouldnt be surprised if that thing won the race, its definately overkill to the other competitiors.

I believe the F40 owner was a club member that just happened to be there that day. I am not sure what classes have to tow their gear. I didnt download the pdf of rules.

That viper was unbelieveable. I was talking to the guy that was driving the WCM Ultralite about some of the class rules etc and he mentioed that viper. I was like "What viper are you talking about? There are a ton of them floating around here." He says "Its the one that is 8inches wider than all the other ones and looks like it costs a half a million dollars" I saw it drive in near his trailer about 15min later and I said "Well that must be the one he was talking about." :D

Wow, nothing but pure beasts! Looks like it was a nice day and lots of fun. Great pictures! Any videos?

Well I just picked up my new camera 10 minutes before I got there so I wasnt too familiar with its functions. I was just anxious to get out of the car and start taking pictures. After I made a huge lap around the lot and snapped pics of all the cars I wanted to I messed with the video feature a bit but didnt get anything worth posting up. The track isnt set up for spectators either. It was designed for its members to have a good time and if people standing on the sidelines cant see all that much, then too bad. There were some good positions on the far side of the track but that was a far walk and alot of cars were taking off when I finally got done cruising the lot.

http://www.gggraphicsstore.com/KDKZ612.html was 399.99 and 65 for the 512mb card. With the bag and everything together was like $513 or something. I dont know much about cameras but the old POS I have been using for years needed to be replaced. The thing took alright picrures but it ate batteries like a madman.

Only criteria were a decent zoom with image stabilization, a LI rechargable battery, and at least 5 megapixels. I didnt really want it to be one of those tiny little things because I like having all the bells and whistles to play with and dont really care if its compact. Photograghy is fun stuff. It has impressed me soo far. Although, I wish I would have spent the extra cash on the 2GB card, but oh well. The pics are such high res they dont even come close to fitting on my 20in monitor and they are crystal clear. A good investment thus far.

From now on you guys can count on me to post event coverage with pictures on a regular basis. I am already finding silly excuses to use it and will continue to do so.

I saw a magazine article on this car and that thing is sick.

Yeah some of the cars were hiding from my lens I swear. There were a bunch of cars that were leaving the track when I was grabbing a burger at the food stand that I didnt see the entire time I was there. Sneaky mothers.

Once that vette came off the track I headed over there to snap some pics of it and it was already on the trailer!!! I was cursed. The lady that was there let me get in the trailer and snap some pics. She was yelling at me saying "You cant take pictures now.. Its all dirty!!!" I also had a pic of the interior but I have no idea where it went.

That's what the passenger seat is for!

"Here, hold this slurpy while I do 200mph. And beatbox for me or something."

I dont like how I aint seeing a hitch on that ol school vette, did they pardon some cars from towing their own trailers or were they just there to make a non-competition lap?

I looked on this courses website, full course is almost 4 miles. Is there any inclines on it? Looks all flat ground to me, which kinda sucks. Also, sis you notice the membership fee? 25,000$ starting fee plus 3k a year, yowzers!

Yeah, Autobahn Country Club is rather exclusive...

As I will definitely do the Cannonball OLOA at some point, I know a bit about.

The rules just state that you have to carry any spares, fluids, tools, etc with you from the start in order to be able to use them... IE. No support vehicles can hold things for you. This is why some of the teams use trailors attached to their race cars.

You drive all 5K miles or so between each track on the same tires you race on, and you can only have the 4 tires (6 with a trailer) for the entire event. They all have to be street tires with a wear rating over 140 (which doesn't mean too much, but I doubt you want to show up to the 3rd to last race with no rubber left on your tires.

They divide all the classes up between by cost, type of car, and displacement. DSMs would probably fall into the "economy" car class, as they were under 20$K and are 2.0 liter engines. Evos and STis fall into the "Moderately priced sedan" category".

All I ahve to say, is whoever is driving that contraption sponsored by organic racing... brave brave souls. could be interesting driving that down the highway while it's raining.
