What are the parts I need to run the car on boost ? Note I am NOT doing a conversion, I seen that thread but that's NOT what I want, I'm on under 1000 usd budget.

I just want to know the necessary parts to boost "alright" in a 4g63 n/t, I DON'T plan on doing a full conversion soon. Like for example, besides the turbo, exh. manifold, ecu, injectors, fuel pump, ic piping, bov and intercooler is there anything else I would need ? I just saw this 1g for 400 bucks and thought would be worth to buy it and boost it... compression tested 170 all across so the engine is good !

I bet that gutted and boosting I can run 13s, i'll have some porting done to the exhaust side of the head too and run on open exhaust... watch me spank the v8s in a 400 dollar car ;)

And to those running boost on their n/t engines, how does it run ? Track times ? Any problems ? I know the internals are shitty but I'm ready for it.

170 on the 1G n/t is not good at all.

You will also need a MAS, knock sensor and the injector resistor pack. If you don't want to run a MAS or knock sensor, then why even bother with the turbo ECU?

The internals are actually just fine. The pistons are the only difference. The rods and crank are the same as in the turbo motor.

But yea 170psi is bad for a NT motor. For example, my NT motor pulled 240psi all accross. Mine may not be a good example though as that is quite high.

My boosted NT runs just fine. I am having a phantom knock problem but I'm pretty sure my knock sensor just needs to be replaced. Other than that it runs nice and smooth. Of course my car practically IS a TSi now even down the the turbo cams I swapped in. The ONLY difference between my car and a TSi are the pistons. Right now my boost is set at 10psi and I've had no problems due to it.

Thanks a lot for the info guys! What should be a good compression on the 1g n/t motor ? I thought this one was alright but I guess I can always find another one...

2g mas, knock sensor and injector resistor pack, sounds good to me ! Except I have no clue what the injector resistor pack is, but I guess I'll find out.

What if I don't put a turbo ecu in, will it run alright ? I guess all that turbo stuff is so cheap that is probably worth the upgrade...

and the internals are fine ? That's great... I thought I heard they were crappy (the pistons maybe?) oh and the crank is not forged... but still I'm happy with my decision, I'm getting a N/T

The turbo ECU is cheap and easy to put in. Put it in with the MAS and knock sensor please.

if you're going to run the 1g turbo ecu theres absolutely no reason to run a 2g mas. just pick up a 1g mas as well as the connector off the wiring harness and wire it all in. if you'd gotten the 2g mas you'd have to run an s-afc to keep your fuel in check.

a local guy did his by bolting on a 14b and using the stock nt mas and ecu, he had to get an s-afc and was still having troubles with it when he finally decided to not do it anymore and just bought a awd project car instead.
