i have just completed the swap. i encourage everyone to do it. it was well worth it. it is not as hard as one would think. the hardest part of it was makin the upper inter cooler pipe it cost me aproxamatly $300 i used all used parts. my car now runs 95mph at 6psi in the quarter up from 70 and 98mph at 18psi
if anyone has anyquestions on doing the swap feel free to ask

did you rebuild your bottom end with turbo pistons or just keep the pressure low?
any tricks?
what turbo did you get?
i'm getting some parts for now. can't decide on turbo size.
thanx and enjoy your ride

well to make a long story short my car was an automatic as well and i bought it for $400 witha busted timing belt well that turned out to be a broken rod and a busted timing belt. being the poor sob that i am i found a turbo 5speed car at a yard that had a motorinit but it didn't have a head and the cylinders were shot so i carefully removed the pistons, rods and crank and put them in my good block in place of my fugged up stock crank and rod. so yes it is like 7.8:1 compression and i wouldn't see a problem with running 5-10psi on stock pistons as long as you have premium in it and check the plugs regularly for signs of detonation. my car has all stock turbo and intercooler. and it has suvived many passes at 18psi on stock stuff with 130,000 on it if you goto the vfaq.org there are a set of instructions for it it is really not hard it only took me like8hrs to do itit would have been less but the injectors i got were bad and it took me forever to find the problem. one big thing is u need to upgrage ur exhaust the stock n/t is way to restrictive for a turbo it will spool slow and won't have as much power as it should. my car ran 102 mph@16psi with out any exhaust now it runs like 95 with it hooked up so a good exhaust will really make a difference my swap isn't nice by no means but i have less than $1000 in the hole car and i drive it daily and it runs mid 14's at 6 psi my goal with this car it low 13- high 12's for less than $2000

any way good luck and happy turboing

Yep. I run 10psi daily on my NT pistons and have no problems. My plugs look healthy and my compression is still spot on. 10psi on 9:1 pistons is a rush. :thumb:

Congrats on the swap. Turbo's are fun arn't they? :D

get yourself a good turbo back exhaust. i personally am all 2.5" from the 02 housing back and have a ported 1g o2 housing. at 16psi i was trapping 104 and running mid 14's with full interior including a massive sub box.

i too have a turbo motor in my nt car with the nt transmission. just curious though what clutch are you using? and if its a stock nt, start saving.
