trying to figure out if it's cheaper in the long run to buy an RS model eclipse and turbo it, or just buy an already turboed eclipse.

what engine internals would i have to upgrade to go along with the turbo kit on the 420a?

"Accually...............Ok here I go!!!

Lets use me as an example. I bought my car in 1999 (it's a 98 GS). I bought the car for 14000 out the door. In california mind you! Anyways back on topic, now at that time the same year GS-T's were in the 20000 dollar range, way out of my reach, I was 19. Now, lets do come math:
Star Stage 2: 2700
Eagle Rods: 350
Je Pistons: 350
RC 550cc: 300
Centerforce Clutch: 300
Apex'i SAFC: 300 or if you want to go standalone (crazy) Accel DFI 1200
Ignition Amp: 400
Thermal CatBack 500

Grand Total: 19200
Sure there are little odds and ends like bearings, rings, and what not, I'm just stating major items. Not to mention that I did most of the work myself, so therefore it saved me a ton on labor. Some arn't so lucky. However, back on topic!

Still less than a STOCK GS-T. At this point I would be running around 15-18psi on a T3/T4 which in my professional opinion is good for around 325 wheel HP. That's nothing to sneeze at either. Now I must add that this is MY route, that dosen't mean that others have got the parts used and cheaper then I. The point I'm trying to make is that things arn't always what they seem. It depends on when one bought the car. I've had my turbo kit on for 3+ years now, and at the time it was cheaper for me to buy a GS and turbo it. That's why I got my car. I hope that helps a little!"

Its in the sticky at top...... called "Advantages and Disadvantages" or something like that.

ps. the search button is your friend.

i saw that list, but are there other things i will need to change as well?

even though im pretty sure it's still gonna be cheaper to buy an rs and turbo it rather than a factory turbo eclipse, i wanna make sure i can get all of the work done.

Well when you buy a kit, it comes with everything you need, and instructions, so if your some what of a mechanic im sure you can doit your self. And if you get hung up and can always call hahn.

i know they make different exhaust models for NA and turbo cars.

after this conversion, would i still need an NA exhaust, or a turbo one?

im assming they are the same thing, but different in the way they mount to the car?

THey are different in the size of the pipe if you just want to stay at the boost level of the kit and never turn yp the boost an N\A exhaust will do alright. BUT if you want to turn up the boost he a turbo exhaust will do fine it will get rid of back pressure and let you spool faster also it will flow more air than a N/A exhaust so will be better for a boosted app. I have a GS-T cat back on my car and YES it will fit. YES they mount diff. most turbo exhaust's go under the control arm because of the bigger pipping and some go over. I say get a turbo exhaust

man, i payed nly 4700 for my RS. :) its a 99 too, its has some body damage but my body kit hopefully will make that look a little better (decided to go blitz..but not back bumper...hate back bumper) anywho, I would STILL only spend about half of what some one who bought a stock turbo car would have bought for. ive already did my homework and have began ordering the parts i need. it sucks tho.. seeing parts OUT of yoru car you can put on yet cause you dont have all the stuff to do it yet. ALready got my pistons, next im gonna try and finish out the internals then get my hahn stage 2. :) YAY!

like RSTsoon said, all on how ya play the cars basiaclly. :):thumb:

if you want to get into the 11s or even 12s or have 400hp easy get a 4g63. but if you got a 420a and plan to do minor turbo stuff keep it. both engines are great, but overall you got less headache if you buy a 4g63 eclipse.
good luck
