Hi there, i recently blew my 420a:notgood:Not sure if its a rod, or a rod bearing or something more simple. But anyways, the motor is being pulled and i will be rebuilding the entire thing ground up.. :thumb:

Heres my delema, I dont have a whole lot of money to blow, so i was planning on peicing together my own rebuild kit with OEM parts, reliable but in-expencive.. Any advice on what i should go with?

While i have the motor out i planed on doing a transmition swap, i hate this pos automatic tranny. And once back in i planned on boosting it with a few mods on stock internals, with 000000 on the odometer i think i should be ok pushing 6-8lbs, nothing special but it would be supported with bigger injectors and msd ignition, other odd and end stuff. Also any advice here?

Thanks

You do realize what you are asking doesn't go in the same sentence right? Inexpensive and boost are not meant to be in the same sentence or paragraph when it comes to boosting a 420a. Your looking at buying parts (pistons and rings, rods, bearings, and etc) and then all necessary machine work. These alone are usually pretty expensive unless you buy cheap parts which is a no-no in itself. So if you want to boost your 420a, do it once and do it right.

Build the bottom end for boost since you'll have the engine out already. If you don't have the money for that, do a stock rebuild. Thats still not gonna be cheap, but cheaper then buying parts and a egay turbo kit.

So really the choice is yours, either pay to play or cheap out and plan another rebuild for the future LOL.

Edit** Also you can't just throw bigger injectors and an MSD in and think your ok for boost.

If you plan on boosting the car ever then dont waste your time with a stock rebuild. Pushing boost on a stock bottom end will always end with blowing the motor. Even on low boost its not IF the motor will blow but WHEN. Some motors last several years and some last a day. Spend the extra money and build the motor with forged internals

Stroke it to a 2.2 and boost it! or just rebuild with forged items. If you cheap out now, it will bite you in the ass, and you will spend more money in the long run.
