going turbo.....took off my cat..prob???

im going to be turboin my car soon with a star stage 2 turbo kit and today i took of my cat..because i wanted some noise ...will that be a problem when i put the kit in...will i havr to buy a high flow cat??

There isn't any reason why that would be bad at all. The removal of the catalytic converter actually allows for quicker spool of the turbo, yaay. If you don't mind the extra noise, and the fact it's an illegal modification to use on the road, then go for it!

I have seen this question before and remember that you might have to do something about the second oxygen sensor located by the cat (wrap in tin foil and zip-tie works); if you don't then you will likely get a check engine light.

Yeah I have seen some of the people use resistors to keep from getting a cel. The main thing I would look at is the legality of it in your area. If you don't have a shop that will pass you then you will be short.

Mine was loud when I had the catgutted out (I put a pipe right throught he center so it looks like the cat is still there) but I haven't noticed any other noise as when the turbo spools it's too loud for me to hear my exhaust haha.

If you live in a big city I can almost gaurantee that you're going to have emissions testing as that's the way most cities are going (to cut down on the smog problem) so that will be your biggest concern. If you've got your heart set on it, then I'd make it so you can easily replace the cat for testing to insure that you pass.

OK cool.thanks they use to have emissions testing but they dont anymore i live in miami fl. But it still is illeagal to take it out the cat.

On the hrc instruction book it says..


Do not remove your cars catalytic converter! Removing the cat not only makes your car illegal in all 50 states, but it can also cause turbo boost to rise to unacceptably high levels for a stock, unmodified engine. The cat your car came with is actually the same as supplied on factory turbo cars, therefore quite high flow capable! Our testing has shown it to work well with your system without adversely affecting up to 300 HP!

Would i have to buy a high flow cat???

haha that books waaaaaaay off. First - yes removing the catalytic converter will make you illegal in all 50 states, but only PARTS of those states. In my area, there are no emissions laws therefore, we are not required to have a functioning catalytic converter. Second - If your car as an external waste gate, what they have said is null and void as the point of a wastegate is to prevent the turbo creep, or in plain terms prevent the turbo's boost from rising past what you have set due to excessive exhaust gas spinning the turbine faster. All Hahn kit users feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm under the impression that the Hahn kit does not come with an external wastegate but rather an internal one which is not as effective as an external wastegate.

That's why it's not removed...I just simply gutted it haha. Most cops wouldn't know the difference

I'm running the HRC downpipe and then straight 2.5" all the way back, no cat and the oly bend is to go under the car and then over the rear wheel assembly....otherwise it's straight as an arrow and I never got any boost creep or anything. Boost definitely comes on a little bit quicker, and my times dropped about 2 tenths when the exhaust went on over what I had before the cat was removed.
