Sherwood Park,
Everybody seemed like they were going to make there NT into a turbo but I haven't seen anyone post any updates on there projects. For the past 2 weekends me and my buddy were making his car into a turbo. Now all we did was swap parts we never built the engine, changed the clutch, just bolt on the turbo, intercooler, and tbe rest of the parts. Well earlier today we finished so we started up the car, the car fired up with no problems so we decided to go for a drive. Not having the boost controller set yet he couldn't pass 3500 rpm's with out keeping his boost under 10 psi. So we backed off the boost controller as far as it would go and went for another drive. This time when he stepped on it the boost maxed out at 11psi. Still taking it easy but getting a little more confident he decided to see what kind of power his car now had. We were heading back to my house and he went around a corner gave it WOT in second and at about 5000 rpm the started to run like shit, no power what so ever and we couldn't go faster then 50km/h. Thinking we just ####ed up his car my buddy went from having the biggest smile on his face to wanting to home to cry. We brought it into the garage and checked the compression, 150 on all four cylinders so the engine was still okay. He took off the air filter to clean it and noticed that the intercooler hose had popped off, we hooked the hose back up and put the air filter back on and everyting was good again and the smile was back on his face. The car ran strong and so far is handling the extra power. The boost is set at 11 psi so we will have to see if the engine can handle it or not.

I am guessing this is a 2.0 NT turbocharged on stock internals, if anything you'll just crack your pistons and it will be the worst day of detonation you have ever seen.

sounds like a recipe of destruction for me, but i can sympathize, the first test drive i took on my turbo project i blew the upper ic pipe off myself.

if you want some updates i should be getting my nt -turbo swap dynoed on the 19th if all goes well.

did u change the injectors, ecu,or mas?jsut wonderin b/c im doint he turbo swap with a built motor and i think changing the ecu just to get a different mas and knock sensor is stupid.did it work ok and all?thanx.

Did you just say that changing to a turbo ecu with the turbo mas, turbo injectors and a knock sensor is stupid? F*CK!

Yes we changed to the 450cc injectors, put in a turbo ECU and MAS. The car runs GREAT. We were able to get the boost down to 9 psi and that has been where it has been at for about a month. He is still on his 200K km stock clutch too. Me and him raced and the only reason I beat him is becasue of the AWD drive. If I launch like a grandma we are even.

naw,i was just asking if he changed the ecu and mas.i know the injectors need changed obviously.im just wonderin if the stock n/t ecu can handle 450s and boost.

The turbo ECU has a different fuel map and has a timing adjuster for the ignition when detonation (knock) occurs. Just save yourself a big hassle and fork out $200 for the turbo ecu and knock sensor.

They are fairly close. The pistons are the only difference along with the cam lobes.

Hey how are you? I just did the same thing but my car is an auto, I have a question about the injectors, what was involved in changing them, I thought that N/T run a diffrent OHM than T cars so I would have to change the reisistor, may be I'm nut's but please inform me as to how you did it. Thanks

check the "installing a 4g63t..." thread. i answered your question in there.

Mavisky, once i saw that you did the conversion, that imediatly made me want to do it. I have just 1 question. What would be easier.. Do the N/A conversion like you did, or to drop in a TSi FWD engine. I can get a doner car really cheap.

i dropped in the tsi engine, more power and more reliable in my opinion, but of course cost can be a little higher, and there's more room for mistakes since you're dealing with more parts.

ok, i have access to 2 TSi FWD engines, i was just wondering what would be easier, thanks, once i get some more paychecks ill see what i can do with about 2500$ a monthe i will be getting for being assist. manager
