ok guys im a newbie. so now that all that is said and done here is my situation. i have a 1995 gs eclipse with some mods done. the car is a salvaged one so its not in the greatest condition it gets a lil strange in the twisties and in the rain it can be exciting. so i have decided to get another dsm. im going to buy a 1997 and up eclipse i like the newer headlights and front bumper. so the big thing is should i go ahead and get another gs and purchase the star stage 2 turbo kit for it or get a gst eclipse? what motor can produce more power at higher boost the 420a block is cast iron wouldnt that be a lil more durable then the aluminum 4g63t also cant i stroke the 420a motor to a 2.2 liter witch would be a lil better then the 2.0 4g and isnt the 420a powerd car lighter then the 4g63t? i think its also original to turbo a gs then to have a gst like every one else. i dunno so any tips or pointers from you guys that would be great i know i need a new car and i know i want it in that grey color and a 1997 and up i just dont know to get gs and turbo it or gst help me decide please.

Sounds like you are half way to your decision already. You do bring up some good points in your post about a stroker motor, being a lighter car and being more unique etc. I am personally having a stroker motor built as we speak. You can probably make more horsepower easier with a 4G63 car, but with a bit more work you can have an as fast or faster 420A that is much more unique. Good Luck!!!!

The main factor on deciding which car to get is cost. A 97 GS-T will probably cost about 3-4 grand more than a 97 GS and your insurance (depending on driving experience) will be about $30-$60 more a month. With that said the possibilities are endless. With the 420a you can purchase the 2.2L stroker, then get a Star Stage 2, and turn up the boost some and make crazy amounts to power to smoke a lot of cars on the highway. And with the 4g63T there are again endless possibilities. You can swap out the crank from an Eclipse Spyder and make it a stroker. You could also swap out the entire block from a 4g64. With a 97+ GS-T you'd probably want to swap the head for a 1g 4g63 and port out the exhaust manifold.

A big factor is that the 420a can safely hold about 300 crank hp without replacing internals while the 4g63 can hold about 400-450 crank hp without replacing internals.

-Hope this helps out.

i never thought about swaping the 4g64 block and crank and adding the 1gen head thats just some crazy stuff. i have never heard of that done before. the insurance is a big factor for me sense i am just turning 18 april 3rd and i just got a nice lil exhabition of speed ticket on my record. or soon to be on my record i go to court on the 7th of april i didnt know that roasting your tires through third was ilegal. beats me! this car isnt going to be a track car pretty much daily driver slash freeway demon. oh another thing i raced a pretty much stock gst eclipse down the freeway how come at around 110 they lag a$$ and drop off 3 car lengths? i seem to beat alot of gst and gsx eclipse's on the freeway.

Personally, I own a 97 talon n/t. I like the car, but I plan on selling it soon, just cause i'm ready for something different. If I were to keep it and decided to spend some money I would turbo it. However, if I was looking to buy a car and know what I do now, i'd buy a 4g63t, and preferebly an all-wheel drive. As far as insurance goes, call up your insurance agency and find out, if you are turning 18 soon, it will likely go down just a little bit, and it goes down more when you turn 21 and way down when you turn 25. Also I've heard of many insurance companies that charge the same amount for the turbo models as they do for the non-turbos. Some agencies just don't have them listed as seperate cars. I really don't think you are making a bad choice either way. If you get the 420A and turbo it, most people have shown that it will cost about the same as a stock 4g63 of the same year with similar mileage. So like I said, I would turbo the one I've got if I planned on keeping it but if I was buying a car I would buy the 4g63.

ps

I don't know for sure but if i had to guess, the reason they drop off at 110 is probably because you are hitting the limitations of the t-25 turbo they have which is pretty small. They are great little turbos for instant torque and hp at mid-range but fall off pretty quick above about 6k rpms.

well guys i came to a descion. my GS is gone pretty sad story but the good news is i got a new car coming. 2004 srt-4 neon i am waiting for one to come in silver. they dont have any around in my area and the one they had was whack. it had like 2500 miles on it and they wanted 20 grand for it. i think not! so most of the DSM projects have been put on hold till well i own another DSM im still lookin for another GSX. well then its peace out to the board for a while unless you start a NEON forum LOL it still sounds so lame. NEON LOL OMG.

kick ass, wish I could afford a neon right now....only thing I dont like about the(other than their looks) is that the turbo and exhaust manifold are one piece, but the SRT-4 is probably the best bet for the money for a new car anyway
