ok so right now im running a cheap china turbo from ebay cause i dont want to damage my better turbo while im working all the kinds out of my system. this turbo is smoking so bad right from startup that i cant even turn it on without filling the yard with smoke. now i found out why the turbo blew and it was because my return line had kinked and wasnt letting it return to the pan. but my question is... running a t3/t4 turbo and running the feed line out of a hole in the back of the block and not right off the sending unit, what size restrictor should i be running??? I have heard and found alot of info but am still confused because everything is so back and forth on this from one person to another. I know i have 35psi at or just above idle but have seen 90 psi oil pressure or so at wide open throttle. what size oil restrictor is best for me when running the -4an feed line??? also what is the smallest return line i can get away with??? inner diameter???? thanks for reading!! I know it is long but i wanted to answer as much as possible before someone asked me. LOL
 
i have a -4 an feed line going to a restrictor that measures .060". My oil pressure is about 60 cold at idle, and goes up to around 75 ast 3-3500 rpm.
warm, it drops to about 35-40psi idle, and 60ish at 3k.

I use an fp inline filter/restrictor that is .100". It's meant for journal bearing turbos using -4an feed lines. I haven't had any issues with oil pressure at the turbo since I installed it. Before I put it in I always have puffs of smoke coming out of my exhaust between shifts. I hope this helps.
 
Restrictor size varys with the type of turbo...Most ebay t3/t4 journals can be run without one and be just fine :S. But if you're smoking and your sure the seals are fine, then I guess that one needs it.
 
i am not sure the seals are fine. i think they are totally blown. I found that my oil return line had a major kind in it and it wasnt able to get rid of any oil so im sure the seals are blown. it is a cheap 200 dollar ebay turbo that is a t04E style and im sure the seals are shot!!! thank you guys for the info. and to Carter_95RS..... I see about 55 to 60 psi oil pressure right at start up too but after about 2 minutes or less it drops to right about 35. I just wanna put a restrictor in it cause I know im running to much pressure at WOT. thanks for the info guys. any more info that anyone else wants to chime in is welcome.

the turbo smokes like hell about 3 seconds after startup and it is really bad!!! so i think i will buy a rebiuld kit and replace the seals and start over. there is no shaft play at all and i havent even run this one up and down the road except 2 times i took it about two miles trying to work other kinks out of the car and testing other systems. I wish icould just find a new seal kit instead of full rebiuld but it is a no name turbo so its hard to find anything for it.
 
i ran into the same problem, i had no shaft play in the turbo, but the seals were gone.
i ended up buying a CX Racing cheapo off of ebay, and made my own restrictor plate and havent had a problem since
 
well I think im going to order a .080 restrictor and probably have to buy a new turbo cause the seals have to totally be gone in this one and im not going to ruin my more expensive turbo till i have about 2000 miles on a cheap one. spending 980 on a good turbo isnt worth having it blow on me cause of to much oil pressure. plus I dont need as fast spooling of a turbo till I have all my other kinks worked out. dont wanna boost spkie and detonate!! thanks for the info guys.
