So I came into possession of this 38mm external wastegate. I was told it was a tial brand but when I got it I quickly realized its not. It works great but the only problem is that its set at roughly 12 lbs. I don't know who makes it so there for I don't know where I can get a new spring. Can somebody help me out and let me know where I can get a new spring. If somebody has a tial wastegate and can pop it open and let me know the dimensions of the spring I can see if it matches and if it does I can buy one from tial directly.

the spring is 4.25 inches tall and 2.4 inches wide and looks like a very dark green color. Is this a standard by which all springs from all manufactures are made?

(p.s. Pictures are on the way)

So I guess I'm asking are 38mm wastegate springs interchangeable between brands? like would a tial spring fit inside an ebay wastegate?

It does look like a Tial knockoff.

If the spring dimensions of the Tial springs match the dimensions of yours, I don't see a reason that the Tial springs wouldn't fit your wastegate as well.

Try to get the dimensions of the Tial springs and go from there. :talon:

Edit: I explored the Tial website and found that their green spring is 2.360 in. (outside diameter). It, however, doesn't give height of their springs.

right, thats what I found too. And I assume that the height wouldn't matter all that much because it gets smashed down inside the actual wastegate, right?

I guess if you take into account that the spring is the same OD roughly as the Tial, and seems to be the same design wastegate, the Tial spring would work in theory.

I'm not sure how much the Tial springs cost, but if they're not too expensive, it might be an option to buy the spring(s) that you want and give it a go. :talon:

These knock-off manufacturers can be pretty good at duplicating a design. If it were my wastegate, I would buy a TiAL spring and call it a day.

if ## sure its 38mm gate then i think any spring for 38mm wastegate can fit

Just an FYI, the Tial springs are interchangeable between all their wastegates, 38, 40, 44, etc. They are simply rated at different PSI for the different size gates.

Example: the large blue spring is equal to 14.504psi in a 38mm, while the exact same spring is equal to 13.053psi in a 44mm.

Spring pressure table: Tial spring chart

Just measured my authentic Tial springs I have:
Large Tial - 4-1/8'' x 2-3/8''
Small Tial - 3-3/8'' x 1-15/16''
Tial BOV - 3-5/8'' x 1-1/2''

OK thanks a lot for all the information and help guys. I'm gonna go past the local speed shop in the morning to grab a new spring. I'll let you guys know how it turns out. Anything else I should know?

I would take a look at a few of DSMTuner's sponsors' websites first so you have an idea of what they go for online. There's a good chance that local shop will overcharge for the spring...

ok I just wanted to post here and let you guys know that the tial springs will work in the knockoff wastegates.

one more quick question. When I hit boost it goes lean for a second or two and then to rich. now I assume that's because it needs to build pressure in the return line. will that 1 or 2 seconds hurt my car? I'm using a narrowband gauge. 12:1 fmu and stock injectors. Thanks for all the help guys

I think that pretty much explains itself. I bet a wideband should be your next car related purchase.

How does it feel like its running? I just wouldnt pay any attention to the narrowband. You can buy a wideband but cant do anything about it anyway. There is nothing to tune with having a 12:1 fmu and fuel pump as your fuel setup. It has already been proven many times that this is the best "basic" setup for a fuel system up to 7psi. As long as you made sure everything was installed correctly of which you probably wouldnt see any boost if it wasnt then you should be good to go.
