I will soon be assembling a long rod 420a turbo engine so I am trying to gather good information from those experienced in the matter. My question is what end gap is everyone running on the turbo 420a? I would assume that gap would be a little looser than factory specs due to higher heat concentration on the rings but I would rather not make any guesses.

I just used whatever JE specified on the included spec sheet... I don't remember what that is off the top of my head. Who makes the rings you have?

I ran .017 on top ring and .019 on middle ring on my first engine. On my current engine i have .020 on top and .022 on middle ring because i am planning on spraying the hell out of the engine. BOTH engines burn a little oil but not bad at all. Both engines also had a lilttle blow by. They both pulled the same amount of vacuum as well. Every engine i build for now on will have the bigger gaps because if i want to spray i can without having to worry about the rings being too tight and i dont see any advangtage of the tighter ring gaps.

I have the Wisecos and when I called them and told them it was going on a turbo set up with maybe some nitrous they told me to gap the top at .016 and the bottom at .019 with a range of +or - .004. I gapped mine at .016 and .019 and I don't have a problem but I am not boosted yet. I get good vaccume and doesn't burn oil. That is for the non coated Wisecos, don't know if coated would make a difference.
