i have a weird problem. when ive been driving for a while i look at my egt and that says my temp is fine. BUT when i look at my stock temp gauge, that is showing that im runnin close to overheating temps. bigrand told me that it should have something to do with my coolent/water mixture, so i got it back to a fifty fifty mix... but the problem still occurs... any ideas?

When the gauge reads "overheating" does your coolant boil when you look at it?
And is their a loss of coolant while your driving, or from the time you started the car till you park it and notice anything about the resivoir?

I thought it was weird. My coolant temp gauge reads about 210-230 degrees... I thought we should run about 180-190 degrees, but the stock gauge runs right where it should at 210-230. If your radiator cap is old, that will hurt cooling levels

When you said your EGT gauge reads ok... whats that got to do with coolant?

Bigrand- No, the coolant actually seems just fine. and im not loosing any either.

Snoopy- no, i know that the egt has nothing to do with coolant, i was just using that as comparitive for the heat temps.

Its probably just your thermostat, Its probably pretty cheap at napa, and I know you could do that yourself, so that could be it. But other than that I couldn't help ya anymore.

General things to look for when you're overheating:
1. Thermostat isn't stuck closed (take it out and run the car without it).
2. Your rad fans are plugged in and turning on.
3. Coolant levels are fine with no oil or black mixed in.
4. Heat is expelled out the rad better under pressure. Your rad cap has to hold a certain amount of pressure before opening (15 or so psi). Change the cap with a known working one.

Better than that, put the thermostat in boiling water. if it doesn't open, its froze

my car runs hot sometimes too. and i have to put water in the rad every week or so. it only runs hot when it idles for a long time. i am only using one fan right now cause i melted my ac fan. anyone else had this problem??? and the water boils if the car runs for a long time.

My buddy in his GSX is having this same problem, his car over heats and dumps a shit load of fluid out his dump tube. This espcially happens after he's been on the highway for a while and then lets his turbo timer run down. Weird huh.

Well for me it was the radiator cap, and I just replaced his and so far so good.

I was also thinking that it could have to do with the radiator not getting cooled off sitting in one place with a big ass fmic in the way at idle.
