Kea'au,
hey guys,

ive had my turbo kit installed my one of my local shops that are known for there work on import cars. ive been looking around in the gallerys to see if any one elses bov is hook up the way mine is hook up. everything seems to work fine, its just ive never seen anyone elses hooked up the way mine is. take a look.

heres is a front view of the engine and you can see how the bov is connected.

another, i believe it is teed off at the egt thing? ive seen kits that eliminated this thing so does that mean this isnt a good source for the bov?

is my bov hooked up correctly? as i said before i never seen anyone elses quite like this. shouldnt it be tee'd of at a source directly from the intake manifold? if so which one is that.
you can also see that i have a breather filter in place were ther used to be a vac line from there to the stock intake. ive seen other people with this filter located here, does it do anything and is it necessary?

also my boost controller doesnt seem to be working properly. i have it hooked up to the compressor housing and ive been reading that this isnt an effective source. they say to tee it off directly from the vac that goes from the intake manifold to the bov. for me i have no idea which one that is. my waste gate also has a lil sticker on it that says 7, so i figured that ment wat psi spring is inside, but i cant get my boost to rise past 4 or so im not sure wat is goin on. i know that the gate is opening because i can hear it and the external dump is pretty loud.

so what im asking is, is my bov hooked up correctly. if it is then which van line should i tee off to hook up my boost controller correctly? if my bov isnt hooked up correcly which vac off the intake mani should i use instead of that egt thing?

im sorry for all these questions im just kinda confused. i hope the pictures are clear enough, if more are needed i can take them and post.

thank you for your time

Okay I can't help you w/ the BOV right now, I need to take a better look at my own set up first.
As for your boost controller, it does need to be sourced from the intake manifold (its on the back of the mainfold, but I hope someone will be able to tell you which one of the 3, is the right one)

Yes your wastegate is correct w/ the 7psi spring, after the boost is intercooled and hits your intake manifold it usually drops about 2psi (ie. 7psi wastegate-intercooled = 5spi at manifold and what should show up on your boost controller when hooked up correctly)
And yes that external dump is hella loud, gotta love it though, makes it sound like our cars are really doing something.

I also noticed that you have your a boost controller their, and this should help you out, better thank defiant

yes your bov is rignt. that line is a vaccum to the mani for the egr. i have never seen it done quite like that but it should work fine. i would block off your egr to stop that hot exhaust from messing up your intercooled charge. but thats just me.

Isnt the egr on only on "cold start ups"? once the engine is to its normal temp. the egr closes.

Do you got pics of your i/c and i/c piping? looks sweet!

thanks for the help so far guys,

so if i hook up the boost controller the correct way, i would just another tee coming off the bov vac line correct? and how would i plug the compressor side of the turbo?

thanks again

hows that BOV sound at low boost? i was thinking of getting it

i think it sounds pretty nice, a little quiet but nice. best i can say to describe it is a flutter mixed with a whistle. ive heard it at high boost and its meaan, i cant wait!
i can post a sound clip of mine if u want.

so if i use the existing vac that goes to my bov for my boost controller, how do i plug the compressor side of the turbo? and were is the right source for vac coming off the intake manifold so i can re do my bov and boost controller vac lines.

thanks again

On the intake mani.. there should be three places to source vac... (well, atleast mine did) I used the one on the far right (looking at the motor) and mine works just fine... :thumb: Also, i vote yes on the sound clip! I have been wondering what that sounds like at low boost... my rfl is really too f*ing loud, even with only 5 lbs. good luck with that.

the SSQV sounds very good at any boost level
IMO
I think it is the best bov on the market.

Does anyone know if it bolts right up on the star kit IC piping flange? or do I need the adapter for it?

HKS Standard is currently on, I like the flutter sound but its to quiet when it really goes off (I think it leaks to much).

Can someone explain what exactly is that flutter sound?

its one of 2 things to my knowledge. the BOV not getting a strong enough vac signal or not enough boost or whatever and isnt staying open fully. or its compressor surge, where the air is built up because the BOV didnt open, and it hits the compressor wheel and stops it from turning. compressor surge is pretty bad and can destroy turbos... thats what ive inquired about the flutter

I'm almost certain that its not enough boost, because the BOV isnt' loud at all when its not under a load. Thanks Chris

from what ive heard its quite common among the SSQ at low boost, but im not sure about the standard HKS

your BOV needs to be tapped into a vac/pressure source. Im unsure if that is a good tap. I suggest tapping into the one they used for the wastegate, assuming it came directly from the intake manifold. or tap into wherever your boost gauge is tapped into.

thank you Burnett03, i was just about to ask this question. then if i hooked up to my bov t the same vac source as the boost guage, i would then t that line to hook up the mbc correctly ya?

thank you again for ur input

As long as the blow off valve is opening after when you let off the gas under boost then where it is tapped is fine. That is coming directly off of the intake manifold. I recommend removing the egr system completely and running that vaccum line directly to the blow off valve. The boost controller is setup correctly. Turn the allen head screw all the way clockwise until it stops, then usually 3 counter clockwise turns is about 2lbs and then every counter clockwise turn after that is 1lb. I would also check for boost leaks especially since the mbc doesnt seem to be working you said.

looks like a turbos xs standard boost controller(bleed type)..i heard that the bleed type boost controller don't work to well.you might want to get a ball and spring type mbc they hold better with less boost fade or spikes.i belive that the turbo xs high performance mbc is a ball and spring type.

thanks ya guyz for ur input. i tink i gon make one of the home depot style mbcs to see if it holds boost better. as for the intake mani vac, i might just tap into the one that my boost guage is hooked up too. i still dont know wat i gon plug the compressor side of the turbo wit so i can hook up the boost controller correctly..any ideas?
